So, tell me about your rain gear.

I'm in the market for some new EVERYDAY rain gear. I'm not talking about stuff that you pack in your bag for the occasional "Oh crap just let me get to the bridge" type stuff. I'm talkin' about long term, know your gonna do it, purposely preparing for a wet ride, type of stuff.

For those commutes to work in the hot summer, what do ya do to keep your feet dry. I used to keep a pair of work shoes at work. Not sure I can count on them being here when I need them though. Stuff tends to walk away here. And thanks to LEAN initiatives, if I don't need it daily, I can't keep it at my desk, and it gets thrown away. Even if they did let me keep it at my desk, I'm not sure I want my work shoes "labeled". EVERYTHING at my desk "MUST BE LABELED" per this LEAN BS.

Anyhow... Rain gear;what ya got, what do ya do? Mine's full of holes.

Today I packed my Treds overboots
and my First Gear Splash rain pants.
Wore my Tourmaster Cortech jacket today, but if it was going to be hot I'd have packed the FG Splash jacket to wear over my mesh jacket.
Have a set of water proof gloves but a set of XL dishwashing gloves will work great over your regular gloves. They provide excellant grip in the wet. Aerostich has a set for $3

Riding home for 3 hours in Tropical Storm Barry a couple of weeks ago, I had the splash jacket and my First Gear HT over pants on. The Joe Rocket waterproof gloves eventually leaked and I didn't have the Treds with me :ohwell: but other than my feet, I stayed pretty much dry on the ride home.

I wear Gore-Tex hiking boots (NICE in the summer) with gators tucked into my rainpants.

One piece rainsuit, gators and hiking boots.. Stay totally dry.. Have rain gloves too, but I generally foget to pack them and wet hands don't bother me as much as wet feet..

Hiking boots keep my feet extremely dry, and the gators stop the water form draining down my rainsuit into my boots. Hard lesson learned when riding through a thunderstorm in Altoona, boots hold water IN just as well as keeping it out, when I got back went to the Annaploois Mall and bought the pair of boot gators.

The one pice rainsuit is the only 'accessory' that is branded BMW.. It's base color is black, with lime green reflective panels in the arms and legs. My riding gear (Olympia) has water proof liners, but not a good idea in the summer, that and they leak at the waist, the one piece keeps me exceptionally dry and the price was right $99.00.

My summer gloves, Marsee, though not water proof, have a rubber wiper blade on the index finger to help keep the visor clear.

The boots are waterproof, but not a specific brand.. just gore tex lined hiking boots..

The gaitors are Black Mountain I think.. attach to the shoelace so they won't ride up, stirrup for the heel.. and about 1/4 lenght.. they go about 1/4 of the way up your calf.

I've ridden through several thunderstorms (including yesterdays) and always end the ride perfectly dry and comfy.

several hours of below 70 degrees riding at highway speed with wet hands can be quit uncomfortable.
A set of the dishwashing gloves doesn't take up much room, just leave them in the topcase.

Finishing last
Been using a set of Frog togs. I keep some velcro straps to keep the pants snug to my leg. They will melt on the exhaust pipes. Just got a new first gear mesh/text jacket yesterday. Zip in liner is supposed to be waterproof but I'm sceptical. Think it's just a wind breaker. I'm looking at getting a set of gaiters or over boots, and gloves soon.

I do like my togs though.

Oh, the liner is waterproof, but the sweat will make up for it!!

Only place I found the Gaiters was the outdoor store outside of the food court at the Annapolis Mall.. We looked high and low and couldn't find any. They are made for snowshoeing and hiking in the snow, but they work great keeping the water out of my boots.

I just ride through and drip-dry, and remain ever thankful I'm not addicted to chrome.

I tried that two summers ago, it was mid July about 90 and figured, Get wet, it will be refreshing!!, 6 hours later (and I was more than dry) when the sun went down I was FREEZING!! Dug out my liners, my long sleeve undershirt just to stop my teeth chattering.
