Actually in the middle east they are more often called narghilas. I brought one back from Jerusalem. It is a special kind of tobacco that is soaked in honey and flavored with either apple, mixed fruit or the like. There are restaurants in DC that have rooms devoted to them. Quite popular in Paris as well. I am not a smoker, but every once in awhile I will light it up. You place a small piece of special charcoal on top of the tobacco to light it.
