So what happened to Turkey?

SSDD. The Middle East has been a wreck since forever. Us sending our young men and women over there and putting them in danger in that shithole hasn't accomplished a thing. It should be pretty simple to pull out and let them have at it, and close our borders to any country that doesn't know how to act. Not sure why our elected leaders are still dicking around with these savages.

Obviously your news sources on twitter have failed you again.

Just curious. I didn't see any news about them and the Kurds this weekend.
ABC News reports Turks invaded Kentucky and massacred hundreds of Kurds in what will go down in history as "the Night of the great Knob Creek Machine Gun slaughter"

A segment on ABC News’ “World News Tonight” that aired Sunday showed video of a years-old military weapons demonstration in Kentucky and described the footage as being of a Turkish attack in Syria.

In the segment, anchor Tom Llamas portrays the video as an attack by the Turkish military on Kurdish civilians in northern Syria, Gizmodo reported.

“This video, right here, appearing to show Turkey’s military bombing Kurd civilians in a Syrian border town,” Llamas says.

“The Kurds, who fought alongside the U.S. against ISIS, now horrific reports of atrocities committed by Turkish-backed fighters on those very allies.”

The footage shown by ABC matches a video posted to YouTube in 2017 called “Knob Creek Machine Gun Night Shoot 2016.”

How on earth is there ANY chance they didn't know it wasn't authentic when they aired it?

It's a classic case of either you're lying or you're stupid, and either one isn't good.

No chance. They just didn't think anyone else would find out.

Trump did something that on the surface looks stupid, hideous, and is being used to stir up problems with even his most loyal supporters.
But it's far more complicated.

Turkey is and has had it's problems, but has tried to stay a democratic nation and is a member of NATO. While the country is predominately Muslim, they have for the most part tried to stay a secular state. That is until recently when there has been a push from radicals to become more "Islamic".
If you studied biblical history you know that what is modern day Turkey is home to some of the earliest Christian settlements. Jews had spread from Israel up along the Mediterranean coast into modern day Greece (all part of the Roman Empire at the time).

Syria is another mixed bag of nuts. Various ethnic groups and religions. The majority is Sunni Muslim. Pardon my spelling, but the country is ruled by the Baath party. They believe in an Arab Renaissances, socialism and one party rule. They are predominately Shia Muslim.

The Kurds are a part of the non-Arab Sunni group. They have been sniping at Turkey for decades as well as Iraq and Syria. They are aligned with nobody but themselves, and just to be clear, not all Kurds agree even on the time of day. They want a homeland, their own country, which they intend to carve out of the countries that surround them, Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran (minor). The US first started to arm the Kurds when they were fighting Saddam. All well and good until they took those weapons and turned them on a NATO Ally, Turkey. The Kurds had no time for Saddam and no time for ISIS, they don't want to be subjugated by anyone. Therefore the US was their friend in the sense that the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

The Syrian war refugees and the terrorist attacks from the Kurds have put a serious strain on Turkey. Turkey is a NATO ally and has long been a base of operations to spy on the former Soviet Union and Iran. I can tell you from work with NATO in the 80's and 90's that the Turks did not want to visit air defense radar sites in the border region with Syria and Iraq for fear of being grabbed by Kurdish fighters. The feeling was if you got pulled over and had an American passport you were safe - safer, than if you were Turkish.

It's a shithole, always has been a shithole, and will probably continue to be a shithole until they kill every last one of themselves, it;s tribal / ethnic and religious warfare, they all claim the same land, they all want the same thing, which is the land and the other guy gone.

That's just as simple a summary as I could come up with. 10,000 years of history in 1000 characters :)

I think the word we are looking for is arrogant. It's TV, without video and sound you don't have a story, so you "borrow".
I firmly believe they are so arrogant that they saw nothing wrong with using that video with a voice over because they felt it was their DUTY to communicate the gravity of the situation.

The folks that were at that Knob Creek shoot must be laughing their butts off. It's a great event too...quite a carnival and "family" event.

Sounds kind of like Dan Rather reasoning - we got the gist of it right, even if the document itself is fake, thus opening the door to give COMPLETELY fake evidence, because it supports your premise.

I noticed that ABC and all other media that reported on the "error", referred to it as "military weapons demonstration". I guess that's sorta true..but what it really is is a gathering of a huge group of fully-automatic-firearm owners, and non-owning enthusiasts and spectators, for a great big party and shooting festival. Anyone over 18 can rent and shoot machine guns there.

For many owners of vintage machine guns, it is the only time every year that they shoot them. The weapons are expensive to buy and typically expensive to feed and care for too.

NATO has had to play referee between Turkey & Greece for decades. Fighting over some islands. At least the Turks attempt to act like a democracy. Sad part is that Afghanistan and Iran use to be just like Turkey with women freely going about their business on a daily basis.

The Turks are known shitheads, just ask the Armenians. Unfortunately the allies were far too nice to them after WW1, they should still be marshalling the shithole to this day and wipe out their gutter religious cult of Mohammedanism.
