Let me get straight to the point -- many, MANY people seem to be confused as to what socialism is and what socialists believe. A large part of this is due to both American media outlets referring to liberals as socialists (which they aren't), and Bernie Sanders and his supporters being referred to as "democratic socialists" (which they aren't, they're social democrats). I've also seen liberals/democrats referring to Trump as a socialist or a communist, which he is so far from that it's almost laughable. This makes it clear to me that people truly, genuinely don't know what these terms mean. To solve this, I've decided to try my hand at organizing a book club to educate people on what socialism, communism, and even anarchism actually are, and what socialists, communists, and anarchists actually believe.
Now, before anyone starts screaming at me about how evil communism is, I want to make it clear that my goal isn't to change your beliefs or make you a socialist/communist. My goal is simply to educate people on what these ideologies actually are. After all, how can you claim to hate something when you don't even know what it is? Genuine questions and debate are more than welcome, but please don't try to pick a fight.
All of this being said, this post is in part meant to gauge interest in something like this, not to announce something that's already set up. As such, there are no meeting details to share, but I can say that at least the first meeting would likely be remote rather than in person.
