What could possibly go wrong with highly-paid government workers running a grocery store?

As grocery store chains such as Aldi, Walmart, and Whole Foods have fled Chicago due to an increase in theft, Chicago is planning to launch a city-run grocery store.


Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has commissioned a study looking into creating grocery stores operated by the City of Chicago.


HR&A Advisors did the study, and the research concluded that Chicago could establish three stores in the city to combat “food deserts” in the Windy City.



The Chicago Sun Times revealed the report reads, “In the absence of private sector action or commitment to provide sustainable grocery options, it is necessary for the city to play a role in creating and sustaining grocery services in neighborhoods that lack grocery access.”


In a post on X, Johnson wrote, “My administration aims to tackle food inequity with a network of three City-owned grocery stores, offering equitable access to fresh, healthy food in underserved communities.”

Selections pretty good. Prices vary a bit, but you don't pay sales tax. We shop Wally more often, but once or twice a month we go in. Selections about ass good as it can given the relatively small footprint, think Bradfords.

This is such an obvious scam that Chicago residents deserve to go broke paying for it. "Oh, for the low low price of $26 million we can have grocery stores in the ghetto that the local talent definitely won't steal from, and the administrators and their crony contractors definitely won't line their pockets and then...oopsie...realize it's a stupid thing to do and drop it."

Also ghetto hoodrats and druggies will definitely be all over "fresh healthy" food. All they need to straighten out is a hug and a salad.

That right there. Wife and I often discuss the Charity-Industrial Complex. Its the new way to riches. Find yourself a cause, write a few grant proposals, set your salary up there commensurate with whatever qualification you make up.... After a few years, get yourself a NGO designation and go international with you grift.
