...to administering aid to those who need help, but, I know someone personally who spent four years in Zambia.

Africa is a screwed up place and they need far more than lunch.

If you're referring specifically to the food drop - which, I agree is a waste of time - then yeah, it's not much good.

But I rather think that we should devote some more viable (and aggressive) resources to putting a stop to what's going on over there, vis a vis genocide.

Not because of any pressing National Interest, but because it's the right thing to do.

...would we agree that the ONLY way to do this would be to deploy, say, an entire division to stop the violence and leave them there for the decade or two it's gonna take to foster the institutions that will permit the place to stand on it's own?

Then would we agree that it is a huge crap shoot that it would even work?

Then would we agree we're gonna be reviled and attacked for even being their? Some of these fine butchers are Muslims.

The reason so many parts of the world are in such turmoil is that there are far too many chiefs and not enough Indians. All these little piss ant nations live in a constant state of agitation because none of them are big enough.

All we'd be doing is maintaining the status quo and, like the Balkans, the moment we leave, out comes the knives.

Make a case for what we should do. I'd be happy to be wrong and/or support a good solution and not some temporary feel good thing.

Seriously, at what point should we expect a country other than the US to get involved in world affairs and peacekeeping missions? I thought that's what the UN was for, but all they seem to want to do is line their pockets with bribe money.

The looney Left cries their eyes out and BEGS George Bush to "do something", but when he does, they criticize him and call for impeachment. Because what they want him to "do" is funnel more money to the dictators so they can have bigger palaces and more weaponry.

I must say, I honestly do not give a crap about the Sudan. Let the French deal with it. Make the Germans send food and peacekeeping personnel. Tell Putin to get off his dead ass and take care of it.

As Larry pointed out, it's not our problem.

Why should the US get involved? Why not France or Saudi Arabia? Why not another African nation?

Iraq (threat) -> Action Taken
Sudan (no threat) -> No Action Taken
Iran (threat) -> Action Taken (currently in the diplomatic phase of action...which everyone with half a brain knows won't lead to anything)
