Many years ago, I moved back to FL from NY. I found myself unhappy being back in FL and took a long weekend to drive to Greensboro, NC to visit some friends and look for a job to relocate with my 2 adult cats.
Found a pretty decent job, gave notice to my landlord, my job, put in for a rental truck to move, called all utility companies, etc. But I could NOT find a place to live with my cats. My friends absolutely did not like cats and moving in with them was not really an option anyways.
At the last minute, called my new place of employment, called the rental truck company, all the utility companies etc and canceled.
Started a landscaping business and stayed another 7 1/2 years until I met the man who I would marry. Me and 2 kitties moved to CA, where we lost both of them (one to old age; the other to illness) before moving here to MD 6 years ago.
There were not disposable pets and I never regretted my decision. RIP BeBop & Coltrane.

Excellent post! My adopted boys Lenny (Tri-County) and Milo (Humane Society) thank you.

I could never understand how people can accept the fact that there are reasons and circumstances where some people have to put their kid up for adoption or in foster care but those same people can't fathom this happening for a pet...

As one who has never had 2 legged kids, I was never in that position. But honestly, if I did have children and they turned out like some of the misbehaving backtalking spoiled brats I sometimes see- I would probably want to get rid of them!

...I know...it's a good decision to have not reproduced....

Exactly. Things happen and circumstances change. Sometimes people forget the pecking order on this planet in that humans come first.

It would take catastrophic circumstances for me to get rid of my pets but I have enough common sense that if it had to happen, it would.

This is how animal "nutties" earn their name.

Getting rid of a pet that you won't have the time or money for is putting their interests at best. Give the pet to someone who can take care of them and who wants to give them a forever home. It doesn't make them a bad person. Bad people are those who hurt animals physically.
