I was driving home from work yesterday, when I came upon two dogs...one walking in the middle of the road, and one walking on the side of the road. It was a backroad, and most people speed down it...so I stopped to get the dogs off the road. The chow mix was nearer to me, so I stooped down and called to her. She looked at me warily, but didn't move. The rottie mix in the middle of the road turned around and ran back to me. The car door was open, and she jumped right in without hesitation. I checked her collar, but no tags. I could see a tag on the chow mix's collar, so I called and called to her. She finally came over, and I could barely make out the phone number. Every time I touched her collar, she'd back away from me. I finally managed to see the phone number. So, I called the phone number...no answer, of course. I left a message, and told them I'd try to get ahold of them another way. The address was the road that we were on...but it's a long road, and I didn't know how close they were to home. They had burrs in their fur, and I thought they might've been gone for a while.
By this time, several cars had come up but they couldn't pass us because the chow mix, Sassy, decided to stand in the other lane. I finally managed to get her to come over to me, so the cars could pass. One of the vehicles that passed us went up to the next driveway and turned around. I thought he was going to come help....so I told him they weren't my dogs, I was just trying to find their owner. He said they belonged to the house where he turned around. I thought he was a neighbor or something. Then he said the rottie was new....but they'd had the chow for a while. I told him I was afraid the dogs would get hit...and he said, "Yeah, they get out all the time....we're working on that." They were HIS dogs!!! He saw me out there trying to get the dogs out of the middle of the road and he just sat in his stupid little truck and didn't even bother to help! Then, he didn't even bother to put the dogs in his truck and take them home....he just yelled at them to "go home" and drove back to his house while they ran up the road to the house.
I swear some people are really clueless.
