Saw her on their FB page. She looks like a sweetheart!

Upon intake, it was discovered Shelly had been severely neglected and used for breeding. She also has been shot multiple times with both BB’s and buckshot. The combination of such brutal treatment has left her paralyzed in her hind legs.

Sick bastards!

Why would someone use her for breeding? It's not like she's a thoroughbred with papers.

Backyard breeders.

They just say she's a pit, and they sell pit puppies.

REAL breeding is done to weed out imperfections of a breed. If a dog is aggresive to humans, they don't breed that dog, so those traits don't pass on.

Backyard breeders looking to make a dollar are a huge problem. It could happen to any breed, but with the popularity of pits and/or muscular dogs that have pit traits, they know they can breed, and breed, and breed, without worry of finding a customer.

Could also be bait dogs, but I want to believe dog fighting doesn't happen as much as I think. Atleast, I hope it doesn't...

My cousin sells fullbred pits without papers for $200. I've seen both parents and I'm pretty sure that they are fullbred.

With as many pits that are in shelters, foster homes, kill shelters, and with so many pits being killed everyday...I can't imagine why anyone would breed them, other than to make money.

I got my dog from some backyard breeder in FL. Born on a farm, no papers, nothing. Brought her home, got her shots, found out she had "the worst case of worms" the vet had ever seen. Thousands of dollars later, she's as healthy as an ox, and has a far better life than what she'd have in FL.

Friend of mine fosters dogs (mainly pits that are on a kill list). He and his wife ended up adopting an older dog. In the year they have had him, the progression of that dog's health, and spirit is amazing.

Just looking at pictures you an tell that dog is as happy as he's ever been, and my friend plans on letting him live the rest of his life as happy as possible.

Many people just want cute little puppies that can grow with them. I'm all for rescuing a dog, so this isn't the case with me. I prefer a dog that doesn't chew on my furniture and piss on my carpet.
