This week's shop project: Finishing engine build and installing engine, transmission and steering in '62 Falcon B Gasser "replica" build.

"Frankenstein" FE engine with a vintage (period correct) 2 x 4 intake setup and a top loader 4-speed behind it.

Steering is now all in except for the drag link. Engine mount (front plate style) and trans mount are all fabricated.

Had a 63 Falcon, honey brown, lacquered up with a 69 Boss 302 engine in it. Sweet car, got totaled when a car jumped a curb and smashed it up in a parking lot.

An amazing engine, that one. Perfect for any lighter(er) car. I build quite a few Cleveland engines...probably my favorite engine family out of all of them. That's what is in my Pantera too, of course.

I had a white '62 falcon... didn't look anything like that!

In-line 6 with manual choke.

I had a blue 62 Falcon in Ethiopia in 1974-75. The car was new when it was shipped over there in 63, and never left. I'll bet it is still in operation, because the Ethies' and Italian mechanics there could build anything to keep everything running.

Great car! What are you going to do with it, Gilligan? Dragster?

Yep. Vintage drag classes are where all the affordable fun is these days.. This one is "B-Gas". Just about done with the Frankenstein engine I built for it...going in for the "last" time later this evening.

Frieburger has got to be your age ... he bought his 1st car in the early 70's

do you need someone to hold your beer, in between sips

I bought my first car in 1973. A black '63 Cadillac El Dorado convertible with white leather interior.

My first car was a used '64 Wagoneer. Blew up the motor on the 'Jersey Turnpike Exit 9.

First new car was a '78 Subaru Brat. $5500 out the door. Loved that thing, took it everywhere. It was so light it floated past the pickups on the beach sugar sand.

My '74 Scout II could manage Chincoteague and Hatteras beaches like that..but I didn't build that until about '78... My best ever beach buggy was a Meyers Manx dune buggy I built in '77 and in '79 I drove it from Ft. Lauderdale to MD on every stretch of legal beaches there was between there and here. Quite the adventure..and at least half of those beaches are closed to vehicles now.
