Something to THINK about!!

This was in my e-mail----Somthing to THINK about!!!!

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class.

That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".
All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.
The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D! No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that. (Please pass this on)

The lesson will still be lost on the Entitled wons.
Many years ago, when the Jews were finally allowed to emigrate from the Soviet Union to Israel, one of them, a cobbler by trade, came to the office for emigres in Tel Aviv, complaining because he had not yet received his list of assigned customers. It took a while to explain to him by staffers and for him to comprehend that his fate was in his own hands and that it was up to his own industry whether he would succeed or fail. Otherwise known as FREE ENTERPRISE-CAPITALISM. He could set his own hours, work as long as he wanted and dependent on his own skill, could have all the customers he could handle if he wished. Of course, he would have to compete, which benefitted all around, but getting to be the best that he could, would ensure steady and possibly many more customers. Unlike the socialist system that he left, which did guarantee a limited amount of customers, whether they were satisfied or not, as said, it was his decision and his alone to decide his own progress. From what I understand, not only did he succeed beyond his wildest expectations, his children and their children continue to prosper in Israel to this day.
What a lesson to learn from this gentleman who had seen both sides of the coin.

This one has been circulating for years. I guess it's been modified a bit to reference Obama. It is a good illustration though.

The point it illustrates is so clearly fundamental to psychology - to biology - and to science, it boggles the mind that it gets overlooked by anyone. Virtually every time this principle is employed, it is abused. Even the early Christians tried it - and they had people sitting around doing nothing, while others tried to cheat the system or allow prejudice or greed to influence them.

You cannot even train an animal to do anything if they know they will get SOME reward no matter what they do.

If you relieve all pressure off of a muscle - or anything else in nature - it will atrophy to the point where it expends the least energy to accomplish the minimal result. Same with bones.

It is simply too human for people - or communities - or nations - to rest on their laurels once all need for thriving through competition is gone. Nations and empires have risen and collapsed because the pressure to succeed or excel subsided.

And although many discoveries occur by accident, most breakthroughs come by means of someone with "skin in the game" - a personal reason WHY they had to succeed, such as the life of a loved one or the promise of riches.

During the years of empire, Roman citizenship was a universally cherished possession. It took 25 years for a non citizen to earn his diploma serving in the Auxilla whereas his children could then serve with the legions as citizens. Also, it took an extraordinary action or service for the Emperor to grant citizenship. This entailed rights and privileges that noone else could lay claim to.
It was the latter emperor Diocletian, who saw that there were fewer and fewer Roman citizens due to plague, natural disaster and civil as well as foreign wars. This also had the effect of reduced taxes which emptied the Imperial coffers and cramped their lifestyles. Diocletian threw aside the requirements, made Citizenship open to all whether they had rendered service or not, thereby reducing the prestige to one of commonality.
The benefits initially were great, but in the long term catastrophic to the empire.
What was the point tif one did not have to earn it?
Another lesson from the past that goes out the window.
