Song of Songs 2
She[a]
2 I am a rose[b] of Sharon,
a lily of the valleys.
He
2 Like a lily among thorns
is my darling among the young women.
She
3 Like an apple[c] tree among the trees of the forest
is my beloved among the young men.
I delight to sit in his shade,
and his fruit is sweet to my taste.
4 Let him lead me to the banquet hall,
and let his banner over me be love.
5 Strengthen me with raisins,
refresh me with apples,
for I am faint with love.
6 His left arm is under my head,
and his right arm embraces me.
7 Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you
by the gazelles and by the does of the field:
Do not arouse or awaken love
until it so desires.
8 Listen! My beloved!
Look! Here he comes,
leaping across the mountains,
bounding over the hills.
9 My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag.
Look! There he stands behind our wall,
gazing through the windows,
peering through the lattice.
10 My beloved spoke and said to me,
“Arise, my darling,
my beautiful one, come with me.
11 See! The winter is past;
the rains are over and gone.
12 Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
is heard in our land.
13 The fig tree forms its early fruit;
the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.
Arise, come, my darling;
my beautiful one, come with me.”
He
14 My dove in the clefts of the rock,
in the hiding places on the mountainside,
show me your face,
let me hear your voice;
for your voice is sweet,
and your face is lovely.
15 Catch for us the foxes,
the little foxes
that ruin the vineyards,
our vineyards that are in bloom.
She
16 My beloved is mine and I am his;
he browses among the lilies.
17 Until the day breaks
and the shadows flee,
turn, my beloved,
and be like a gazelle
or like a young stag
on the rugged hills.[d]

Well apparently I was wrong.... yet again.... there is no shepherd boy..... no big love triangle. I gotta admit.... I don't think teen girls are any different these days. She's really getting the hang of this laying around. I can see her lounging around the bathes with some of the other harem girls. She's being all dramatic.... my man this, my man that, my man says...... Ugh I hate that phase. Oh don't get me wrong.... I loved being a teen... I appreciate the novelty of that first kiss even today. So I guess this leaping young stag is Solomon trying to get in so he could get the deal done.... they had to be on some kind of clock... after all... there were 700 wives and 300 concubines.

This is from the easy English site.

So he is now inviting her to join him. There is work for them to do together. She suggested that she wanted to look after her vineyard. In springtime, the farmers need young workers to look after the vineyards. They have to chase away the foxes.
Of course, Solomon was the king. So we do not really suppose that he had to chase the foxes. But the couple always used events in the country to describe their love. So perhaps Solomon really wanted her to help with other problems.
The young woman does not seem to think seriously about the invitation. She does not agree that the time is right. Solomon said that she was like a flower . But she said that he had plenty of flowers to look at. He was like a wild animal that lived among the flowers. In other words, she was saying that he had other women to look at. She was speaking as if she were as important as him. Or, as if his invitation did not matter to her.
So she told him to go away. If he was like a shy animal, then he should go back to the hills. She would not join him.
Her decision was stupid. But he respected her. He went away.

I still don't like Solomon. It's throwing a long shadow on this story. Any guy with 700 wives and 300 concubines and only four kids.... has something shading his story. I've said I don't like poems.... I have a hard time understanding them.... but this chapter seems to show Solomon trying to get into her room. My guess..... the question would be.... should she be one of the wives or one of the concubines?

The way I see it..... she's telling him that she wants to go home. I think she's having second thoughts about this whole event. She is clearly not ready to sleep with this man.... it doesn't matter how rich he is.... or how powerful.... or how good looking..... she's a "flower" and she's holding her "bud" for marriage.

OR.... Solomon sent for a new supply of wives or concubines.... "you know they just let the rich guy grab them" and she got caught up in the latest sweep. She's longing to go home.... and she's held in the harem..... waiting to be free.... and that's why she has turned the rich king away..... But that's not what they preach.... is it?
