Without condoning vandalism, the vandal might have had a point if he/she targeted a statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest. (Forrest was the perpetrator of the Fort Pillow Massacre and was a key founder of the KKK.) Robert E. Lee was someone I respected as a person, even though I disagreed with his choice to side with his home state of Virginia.

But you know what? I think the vandal is just some loser who wants attention, and doesn't give a hoot about either Lee or Martin Luther King.

I feel the same way if they'd spray painted the side of MY HOUSE.

As Oliver Wendell Holmes so cleverly put it:

"Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose *begins*!"

(The folks who boo'ed Bush in Atlanta at King's grave the other day *were* exercising their freedom of speech, even though doing so was in extremely bad taste).

Racist? Do you know any thing about the sons of the confederation or southern pride? IF you DID you would know it has nothing to do with RACISM but pride and heritage.

why would i even say that these people are racist?? i was saying that the person(s) that spray painted the statue are stupid racist!!

and yes i do know alot about what most southern people feel for the flag and war and what not. its certain racist boobs in this country that keeps things the way they are now!
