Sore Throat

I've had a terrible sore throat for 3 days now. No fever, no white spots that I can see, but it hurts to swallow or eat anything hard. Could it be strep? I always look for the white spots or fever for strep, but never had just a sore throat for this long.

Gargle with salt water three or four times a day. If you are not feeling better in another day, go see a doctor and get a strep test done. That will be a $10 co-pay, thank you.

Gargling never helped before, but I'll try anything at this point. I took off today, so I might as well go ahead and call the Dr just to see what they think. Thanks for the advice. $10 is cheaper than what I will pay the Dr as a co-pay!

If it was a mono sore throat she'd be wanting to put a bullet to her brain right about now... T'was the most absolute worst thing I'd ever been thru in my life...

There's a nasty virus going around right now that starts off with a sore throat that is the worst you've ever had..for about 3/4 days then you end up with a cold type of thing.

I have it now. The sore throat is gone, but the cold is pretty miserable.

BINGO - I called Dr to make an appt to test for strep and they said if I don't have a fever, it's not strep. Said there was a bad viral infection going around right now that makes the throat VERY raw and antibiotics can't do anything for it. They said gargle and let it take it's course.

I woke up with a sore throat one morning 2 weeks ago and within 24 hours it was full blown strep, and I ended up in the hospital on Christmas Eve on IV fluids and antibioitcs. It was awful...

I hope it turns out to be a virus, if anything!

If it was a mono sore throat she'd be wanting to put a bullet to her brain right about now... T'was the most absolute worst thing I'd ever been thru in my life...

I had mono mixed with strep years ago... it wasn't that bad though. I never really ever got tired or anything though.

The doc I went to gave me a 'script for a Z-pac, Flonase, and told me to get Mucinex-D. The crud was gone within a week.

The sore throat is miserable hacking cough is worst mucinex-d works pretty good but all that goo is gross. I am going on 1 week family has had different levels of it for 3 weeks now.

I would get it tested you never know. Also, Giant is giving away antibiotics for free with a prescription. I can't remember all the name but amoxcicillin and Erythromyacin that come to mind.

You had a sore throat and nothing else and the Dr gave you all that stuff? Would make sense if I had a cold and was coughing up mucas.

I was a snot factory and had a cough. The sore throat was an ongoing thing off and on for 2 weeks prior.

Choke yourself on a popsicle.

Too bad Giant's too far on a short time line. I just got script for Erythromyacin this morning.

For a sore throat that's not strep: Eat salt & vinegar chips and chase them with orange juice. Trust me. Sounds harsh but will be very soothing.
