I am with Mitzi, I don't use it very often, but sometimes it is nice when the weather knocks out DirecTV. I haven't totally 'cut the cord' yet, I am still working on it.

I cut the cord several years ago and have the Firestick. I like Locast because I like the local stations for the weather. I watch a lot on the network stations. CSI is coming back in October with several of the original cast.

I was wondering cant they just change their request for donations?
They must have read your mind. Just got this email from Locast:

"
Locast Nation
As you probably know, the federal district court in the Southern District of New York issued a ruling in the case brought against Locast by the big media companies. The court concluded that by interrupting programming to ask users for donations, and by suspending those interruptions based on whether a user makes contributions, Locast actually was charging a fee, not merely seeking a voluntary contribution. The court then concluded that revenues Locast collects in this manner exceed the cost of operating the service because funds are used to add new markets, rendering Locast ineligible to use the copyright exemption for non-profits (17 U.S.C. 111(a)(5)).
Although we disagree with this interpretation and are exploring our legal options to contest it, out of respect for the court's order,

Locast is suspending immediately all programming interruptions to request donations.
This means that anyone located in a market we serve who signs up for Locast will get the service without interruption, regardless of whether or not they donate.
Of course, it is up to you whether or not to contribute to Locast. But if you currently contribute, we humbly request that you continue to do so. And if you don't contribute, we hope that you will do so if you can afford it.

Thank you."

It went off right in the middle of grace under fire 😢

I just saw my email and they put a post up on FB. I hope they find a way around this. I thought dropping the donation fee would solve the problem temporarily. I did find I can at least watch local news live on the station's website.

Many local affiliates have apps for Roku and Firestick that you can watch their news through.

Just incase I would cancel your reoccurring donation to locast, I have read how they accepted peoples monthly donations after they shut down broadcast. I logged in and canceled mine, it was due to charge tomorrow.

I don't get it. They were rebroadcasting an over the airwaves radio signal, that are owned by We The People, ostensibly, and reaching far more people than the reach of an actual broadcast signal. Locast was basically a signal booster for local stations, like a wifi booster devise for in home use. And, all those commercials would still reach and be viewed by more people, which should have made those TV executives and ad executives really happy. However, I'm now thinking, since Locast stripped the "Nelson" rating codes from the transmissions, the powers that be couldn't realize any additional gain in audience viewership to use those numbers to increase ad costs to advertisers. And I'm betting that's the main reason these stations used "copyright" infringement to squelch Locast.

Kinda pathetic on the broadcasters part since Locast had revenues of only $4.3 million and ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC had advertising revenue that totaled about $18.4 billion. Seems pretty childish and petty on their part.

I think part of it was revenge against Dish Network, Dish used Locast to put pressure on networks to lower their cost. Dish is notorious for turning off networks and telling its subscriber to call the networks and complain so they get lower rates.
