Sound cancelling headphones

Do you use them at work?
Any recommendations?
Would like to buy one for the wife.

I have a pair of Philips (don't see a model # on them), bought them with the intent of using them on the tractor to listen to music. The cancellation part works well, but the overall noise reduction isn't enough on a tractor, not at all as good as decent ear muffs. VERY ok in an office environment, knocks out the fans, motors, etc...

Loaned them to a friend who tried them on an jet ride, also found they didn't have enough sound muffling.

I am so very blessed
itsbob here:

Noise cancelling headphones... I've tried Bose and they are OK.. I think WAAAAAY overpriced.

I've had two different kinds of Sony's and the last pair, digital noise cancelling, were the better of the two, but again $$$$.

My favorite pair, that Nicholas broke, were John Deere Noise Cancelling Headphones, bought at Carroll's. Perfect for working on the tractor, doing yard work, AND great to travel with. That and the look on the faces of all the people around me on the plane with Bose headphones when I put on the John Deere logo headphones was priceless (representin SoMD!!). John Deere also had somethings the others didn't. They were amplified for both music, AND had an external microphone that would pick up voices and amplify that sound so you could still talk to the person sitting next to you without removing them.

The John Deere headphones were $89, the CHEAP Sony's were $130, the expensive Sony's were $199 - 299.. and the Bose, you need a credit line to buy.

Once you've had them on awhile you'll think.. They aren't working, I can still hear the engines.. etc.. Then you take them off for about 1.5 seconds before you slap them back on and say.. "Yep, they work!!"

Money well spent, I NEVER travel wihtout them, and the ONE time I forgot them I bought another pair at the airport for the trip home.
