OK, so I found the proper disks for music recording http://forums.somd.com/computers-technology-internet/121279-cds-recording.html (thanks again Patch Tuesday) and got the records recorded to disk. Can anyone recommend a music editor program (hopefully a free download). I would like to re-record the CD's and take out the dead spaces from the turntable arm lowering and missing the beginning of the tracks etc. I've looked a a few but they seem to go from CD to MP3's etc. but I want to go from audio CD to audio CD
Thanks

Some consider Sound Forge as the gold standard for audio work. It looks like you could use their product as a "trial" for 30 days...

This thing costs hundreds if you were to buy it...

Sony Creative Software - Sound Forge 9 - Introduction

I use Sound Forge for mixing and mastering my music. It is such a huge tool that I haven't even scratched the surface as to what it can do. I think it would be a little over-kill for what you want to do. But consider the benefit of being able to convert your audio to any format you want. You can modify volume levels, apply compression and limiting (this could be helpful with some of the older LPs that may not be of such a great mix due to the older recording technology. On the other hand, if you're a purist, you wont want to screw around with the original quality. You can add effects, fade in, fade out. I'm quite certain you can even remove sporadic pops from a scratched LP by tweaking the overall wave. It comes with a load of various eq settings as well as creating your own custom eq settings.

I could go on and on about it. But if you are really into audio editing, this really is an awesome tool.

Thanks PsyOps, I downloaded the Audacity program and it's working great. Sounds very much like the Sound Forge program you're talking about in it's abilities, although I've not used all of them yet.
