South America on Brink of War

I'm surprised that I haven't seen any posts about this:
South America on brink of war - - The Washington Times, America's Newspaper
South America was on the brink of war yesterday as Venezuela and Ecuador amassed troops on the Colombian border in response to the killing of a Marxist rebel leader.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez threatened to join the rebels in a war to overthrow hard-line Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, a key ally of the United States, deploying tanks, fighter jets and thousands of troops along the Colombian border.

Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa also ordered troops to the border, expelled Colombia's ambassador and recalled its ambassador to Bogota, but left its embassy open. Venezuela closed its embassy in Colombia and ordered all diplomats home.
Looks like more than just posturing to me...

South America on Brink... 03-03-2008 04:40 PM The two army's together couldn't challange Colombia. Pure politics
Really? I don't know anything about their militaries, so I looked them up on Wiki...Venezuela has tanks, APC's, and combat aircraft. Columbia has...transport aircraft. If you have better info, enlighten me.

WEll, if they actually did start shooting it could be bad for us. Our government seems to look at the Americas as our little neighborhood that we have to take care of so I gaurantee we'd send troops.

I worked down at a special op's command that covered the area. They'd be effing with more than Colombia. I'm sure a few of the following would be getting in on that action.

Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Dominican Republic, Peru, Uruguay, and U.S. on top of it.

Whats really funny about this is Chavez has threatened Columbia because they went into Ecuador to kill a terrorist. This should be between Ecuador and Columbia, but Chavez cant wait to stick his nose in their business to protect drug dealers, and to top it off he has the balls to blame it on the united States.

This crazy Venezuelan ---would be Hitler?-Castro?-Saddam?--- wants his azz kicked so bad he can taste it.

To bad the U.S. is not on the brink with Mexico. Going in would solve alot of our domestic problems.

I'm surprised the media hasn't discussed this issue at all. Seems like a very significant world news story.

I turned on the news yesterday to hear more about this (this was about 5pm, before BBC WORLD NEWS AMERICA came on) and all they had was :blahblah: Hillary must win Texas and Ohio :blahblah: Obama :blahblah: Bush sucks so does McCain :blahblah:

It was all very repetitive and very annoying. I'm starting to suffer from extreme election fatigue, and it's only March.

I agree, war in South America is probably more of a threat to us than in the Middle East, yet the media only cares about Dem primaries. If someone like Chavez was able to gain more power through war with his neighbors, we could end up with terrorist training camps in South America as well as a more powerfully operated state funded drug scene.
