My scenario would not include a championship race. It would be decided on points amassed. Race winners would get extra points for winning though.All 16 makes more sense

Yes, but ridding the field of the cars who have no chance of winning the championship.
P.S. This will never fly though because NASCAR wants the entrance fees, and the start and park teams who buy charters wouldn't stand for it.

Do you mean Ryan Newman? He's the only one since the play-offs started that got all the way to the championship four race without a win all year.
Almost won the championship too.
Kenseth won the Championship in 2003 with only a single win.

NASCAR lost me years ago, used to have season tix for Richmond and Charlotte and just dropped them after they fined Jr for saying 'chit' on his radio. Richmond was great, Charlotte was just a party that you wished you missed when you had to drive home hungover the next day after watching 600 miles of left turns.
I did the 600 once. That was enough.
