Spam Phone Calls?

Just sneakin' around....
I realized tonight something was missing. My landline hasn't rung in almost 2 weeks. I used to get up to 10 robo-calls a day, but it suddenly went quiet. I had to call my own phone just to make sure it was still working, and it is.

Are the phone companies finally doing something to eliminate these stupid calls?

Verizon won't let me cancel it without canceling my DSL as well. I had hoped to have Starlink by now, which would let me cancel both my land line and DSL.

Count your blessings! We still have a landline and continue to get several every day. It's really annoying when my husband works the night shift and tries to sleep during the day. Or when the phone rings when I am napping :lmao:

I finally just unplugged ours; can't cancel as ABB says it will be $60/month more on an already > $200/month bill to do so!

I don't have a land line phone. I get anywhere between 2 & 6 calls and messages a day about selling my home. There are 2 area codes that come up on my phone that I don't answer. I had 12 calls the last 2 days. None leave a message. Every once in a while, I of the home buyers will leave a message. 1 person left the same exact message, so he's using a recorded message. I also get text from these people. Usually a simple want to sell your home? we'lI buy it. I send back a who is this? text back.

I've had 2 messages from people asking to buy the property where my mail goes. I texted back the first time, Sure. Since I don't own the property at that address. I've never even been to that location. So that tells me some of these people aren't doing their homework.

For me the real question is how many people are out there looking to buy homes on the cheap? I figure my info ended up on some mailing list. When I first started answering the calls, I'd ask them to remove me from their list. But the calls keep coming.

The DNC list is totally ignored. I never answer the land line. It goes to voice mail, but because the robo calls are too stupid to figure out it's a recording (message clearly says 'leave a message') I was getting the repeated calls.

I was getting those calls on the landline too until I had it disconnected. I would usually ask anyone who was on the phone to visit me in person. One idiot asked for my street address so I told them 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC. Didn't hear back from them. Now I have my cell set with Do Not Disturb and allow calls only from my Contacts List. No more robo calls. Thats a pity, because my car warranty will expire soon.

I haven't had a landline for several years, but I get a lot of spam calls on my cell. I don't answer the phone most of the time. I also get the random text messages about wanting to buy my property in PG County. That I don't own. I once had a spam phone call from myself! 😂

I was going to do that on my cell too, but I went thru a period where I was expecting calls, but had no idea what number they would use, contractors, medical, etc... and I didn't want to miss the calls. Now, I get maybe 2 a week, and it's easy enough to see it's an unknown number and ignore it. If I get more than a couple of calls from the same unknown number, I block it.

Actually Do Not Disturb calls go through but the phone doesn't ring and they can leave a message. If its someone important I add them to Contacts and I call them back. Otherwise I block their number and delete the call history.

I don't think that ever works..I get calls where they ask for me by name, I usually just say 'who's this?' and it immediately goes to a recorded msg..;Hi, this is Mary from blahblahblah' All spoofed calls so blocking them does no good. I get about an even amount on my cell and landline..Hasn't been as bad lately.
