ALL TESTING BANNED!!! :faint:

The Associated Press: NASCAR bans 2009 testing to save teams cash

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) — NASCAR has banned all testing at its sanctioned tracks next season in an effort to help teams save several million dollars in their 2009 budgets.

The moratorium, which includes the traditional "preseason" Daytona 500 testing, is for all three of NASCAR's top divisions. Teams will not be permitted to test at any track where a Sprint Cup, Nationwide Series or Truck Series event is held.

NASCAR informed teams of its decision Friday morning at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The decision is an about-face from just a few months ago, when NASCAR was considering widening the testing schedule to as many as 24 days at any track.

So why isn't it up to the teams to decide how much they want to spend? Where does NASCAR have that input to their budgets? If DEI wants to spend millions to test, that's entirely up to them. I don't get it...

Maybe the logistical cost of operating the tracks for testing?

But wait, there's more...
I thought that too, but this line:

says nothing about their budget, only the team's budget. What does NASCAR care what the team spends?

That's just Nascarese for them really trying to level the playing field and keep the lesser-funded teams in the game so the entire sport doesn't go belly up. Think about it ... if the smaller teams pull out of competition because they can't afford to be competitive in this economy, you'll only have the big heavies still racing -- Hendrick, Gibbs, Roush ... how interesting/fun would that be? It's in the sport's best interest to keep the competition (however under-funded/sponsored it might be) in the game to keep ratings up all around (tv, stands, etc.). :ohwell:

I like the idea. They'll ALL be trying to figure out the tracks on race day. :yay:

I always thought they should alternate the direction they drive on the tracks from year to year. This year, go fast, turn left; next year, go fast, turn right ... now THAT would be interesting to watch! :really: :yay:

I don't disagree with either of those comments. they are both perfectly valid. However, if that's what NASCAR meant, then why didn't they just say it?

I'm losing more and more interest here every season due to their management .

They're trying to hide their liberalism and keep from sounding like they're "redistributing wealth".

But to say/think that, isn't that like punishing the rich/successful? I have no problem with them making a boat load of money, so long as the keep it real for the fans in terms of attending a race.

A concert ticket is $60-100 ... a NASCAR race ticket is between $50-100. But you can't take your own beverages/food into a concert like you can a race. Yea, goin' racing can get pricey, but no more than going to a concert, IMO.

They bought into their own hype and love themselves more than the fans. They lost focus on racing and "the show" and focus more on any way they can pry another nickel out of the pocket of your Wranglers, "The official jeans of NASCAR"

Look how many teams are folding or are talking of folding because it has gotten out of control. Sure if you are Hendrick or Roush it's OK because they have loads of cash (for now), but the rest are suffering huge.

Petty is basically gone now and will probably be sold off within 2 more years. Ganassi and DEI wont last without sponsors, Waltrip likely wont last without the huge factory support they got from Toyota, Yates is dead. You have the 4 teams that win pretty much everything and the 30 others just circle for enough scraps to buy tires and pay per diem..

If everyone was a millionaire, no one would be left to do the work.

Damn, Pete ... did you vote for Obama?

Absolutely. I know the owners of the #4 car, the Morgan/McClure team. They dropped out this year because they are a small team, didn't perform well last few seasons, and dropped out for lack of sponsor money.

No, but it is supposed to be competition, there is no competition really in NASCAR anymore. The winner is already predetermined to be one of 5 or 6 BIG money team, milk toast, corporate faceplates.

BOOOOOOOOOOORING unless of course you are a fan of the predetermined, big money, milk toast, corporate face plates. :lmao:

Hey now ... I've been a JJ/Lowes fan since his Cup debut. I'm not a bandwagoneer. :nono:

I hear ya, and I agree it should be competitive, but at the same time, how can you justify punishing success? It's a fine line, I guess.

Yea you have :yay: It will lose its luster for you when the new flavor of the month comes along and Jimmy is driving the 7-11 Slushie KIA Sorento for a poor ass team with a season best finish of 24th.

I didn't say anyone should be punished. I was saying it has gotten so "about money" no one will be left to race except the same 4 or 5 who win everything anyway. It has gotten boring and tedius. NASCAR is hyping their ass off to make it seem exciting but it just isn't because everyone pretty much knows the outcome before they start.
