St. Mary’s College of Maryland is proud to announce Crystal Gibson to the position of Director of Athletics and Recreation effective June 30, 2020, following the retirement of longtime director Scott Devine.
In her position, Gibson will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to ensure success in the athletics and recreation program while supporting the mission, goals and objectives of the College.
Gibson spent the past three years supporting 23 NCAA varsity teams and 600 student-athletes at Division III Susquehanna University, serving as associate director of athletics (2017-2019) and interim director of athletics (2019-20.)
In addition to those roles, she was the senior woman administrator, compliance coordinator, and gameday management supervisor.
The Randallstown, Maryland, native is no stranger to Seahawk athletics, having served six years as head women’s basketball coach and senior woman administrator from 2011 to 2017.
“Crystal brings back to the National Public Honors College a wealth of knowledge, experience, and leadership,” said St. Mary’s College of Maryland Provost Mike Wick. “She will provide critical and informed leadership as the College and athletics and recreation look to improve and strengthen all student experiences on campus.”
Gibson will lead Seahawk athletics as it transitions from the Capital Athletic Conference to the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), beginning the 2021-22 academic year. Joining the NEAC will allow St. Mary’s College student-athletes to continue to compete for conference championships and automatic bids into the NCAA Tournament, while expanding the geographic footprint of the St. Mary’s College athletics program.
“I am extremely excited to return to St. Mary’s College of Maryland and grateful to have the opportunity to continue to push the mission of creating an incredibly inclusive, competitive and growth-oriented environment for Seahawk athletics,” Gibson said. “I look forward to working with the entire St. Mary’s College community in support of the St. Mary’s Way and providing a holistic collegiate experience to help all students develop and thrive.”
Gibson graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and earned her Master of Business Administration from Lebanon Valley in 2019.
