"Graduated in '94. so watch those assumptions.
Funny that the term 'townie' is still being used. Back in the early 90's it was a bit more relevant to the area than it is now.
I was mostly involved in the Biology and Chemistry Department and really never heard any 'liberal/progressive' talk from that department or its students, hell,...
Son, you were taught by "progressive, open minded, inclusive" faculty. I see that you did not allude to the environmentally active faculty who are portrayed by the many uneducated people on the right as hippies, tree huggers, and liberals.
...I was there when the first Gulf War 'Operation Desert Storm' started and ended. Nearly the whole campus was supportive of that effort.
Now I know at that time there were some liberal proffessors (Glaser), but I never interacted with them so never felt any of their influence.
You interacted with progressive, open minded people everyday.
dchase, I hope you stay with this community forum and use it to help correct any misconception as a line between the school and the community. You would be surprised how many SMCM grads are on here.
While I don't agree with the method used to remove the chicken joints products from campus or the reasoning behind it, the nice thing is that this is still a free nation (for the most part) and people can voice their oppinions, no matter how radically left or right and try to effect change in some small way.
It's up to the corporations, small businesses and managements to make the final decisions on whether to listen to those voices or stick with their business plans.
I think the liberal/progressive/socialist agenda is eroding and destroying the values/morals/foundation of this country and turning it into something that if comes to pass, all of our descendents will be cursing our memories for lackadaisically sitting back and letting those agenda's come to pass and dooming our children to the bleak aftermath (I mean really, sociallism has never worked in the history of this world and only subjects a population to mediocracy and devastating poverty of the masses with rich overlords).
Review American history, America has always been a little on the socialist side.
While in college I probably couldn't have been labelled liberal or conservative (although unbeknowest to me I was probably more in the conservative camp due to my enjoyment of firearms) but the real world has shaped me since and that enlightenment has pushed me firmly into the fiscal conservative camp and a libertarian socially. I want the constitution followed in its original intent, along with all its ammendments... period. Trying to breath new meanings into its writings is corrupting our great country.
If we followed the Constitution in its original intent, there would still be slavery and women would have little or no civil rights. Glad that you added amendments which proves that the Constitution is not a stagnant document/philosophy but will always evolve as long as people do, in spite of the many Neanderthals who are dragging this wonderful country down. I expect son, that you know a thing or two about evolution or are you a creationist?
Sorry for the rambling, too much caffiene this morning. "
