I seldom feel the need to RANT, but.....

I am an alumni of the college. I had the good fortune of being taught by some exceptional people. Mike Coy, who has passed away, leaving the legacy of true excellence behind, Sue Strickland who cares more than any teacher I have ever met, Red Davies, Bluford Putnam, Bob Paul.....to name a few.

I am sad for the students who now attend that school. There is no open forum, no exchange of ideas and viewpoints. Instead, the liberal faction runs rampant with no regard for the truth. I recently read a letter to the editor written by a "professor" there. In this ad little piece, he explains all that is wrong with the republican party and how it is all their fault that Katrina ravaged only the poor and the minorities. Vomit inspiring is the only phrase that comes to mind. What has happened to that great school?

Tenure happened. Lots of folks can act fair for an alloted period of time. Then comes tenure and they can go completely off track. I graduated from there also and remember Red and the rest fondly. There was only one I had - for seminar - that if you didn't think the way he did - you were :dead: All the rest enjoyed lively debate and different viewpoints. They found it enlightening. After all, we were there to broaden our minds, not narrow them.

Sadly, this is happening all over the US campuses.......

Unfortunately, the parents of today do so little parenting and so much working that the children don’t know any better than to believe this drivel.

Nothing to see here
The universities today are the product of the demostrations in the 60s, they trapped the liberal factions in their little cocoon thereby stunting their mental growth. Everyone I know that participated in the anti-war protest in the 60s/early 70s grew with the exception of the ones that went into teaching.

Exactly. These byproducts of the "far out, man" generation are now college professors teaching young people their warped "values" and "morals".

My opinion is that teachers pressing their ideology onto their students is a form of harrassment and should be against the law. It's the exact same concept as sexual harrassment - the powerful pressuring the unpowerful.

:yeahthat:

Facts are one thing. Ideology is another. Even in Philosophy ideologies should discussed, compared, and contrasted, but not imposed.

What's a shame is when you right on "opinion" paper and are told you are wrong! how can an opinion be wrong? I learned in a Philosphy course, when I got a 'D' on my first paper, to spout off EXACTLY what she wanted to hear.. nothin but A's, and they were all BS..

I'm only four classes in, two polysci, one soan, and one philosophy. The two polysci certainly have a good mix of liberal and conservative views. The philosophy class, of course is basically liberal. There are a bunch of hippies at the college but so far I have had no objections as of yet. However, I still have three more semesters to go.

I do wish they had this though, they have an e-mail service but no forum or chat services. The students and professors would certainly be able to coordinate events and get information out better than sending ALL the students an e-mail. There could also be debate.
