St. Marys County Playgroups?

I am an stay-at-home father who is trying to find a playgroup for my 19mo daughter. I want my daughter to be able to play with kids her age. I know there are a few "mommy" groups out there - I heard about them by way of word of mouth. From what I can gather, there is not a group for dads/fathers... that dose not bother me - I just want a group for my daughter.... not me.

If anyone can lend some advice, suggestions, whatever - I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Have you tried reading times at the library?

Yeah, daughter and I went for the first time today. Don’t know what to make of it though. We got there about 10 min late and my daughter did not know the routine as some of the older kids did. We just sat in the back of the room watching. There were noting but moms in there too, so I felt really out of place. I'm new at this stay at home thing - so I really don’t know what to expect or how to strike up a conversation with the other moms there - all of which seemed busy with their own kids. Guess i felt a bit intimidated.....

It didn’t occur to me at the time to ask the two women doing all the reading/singing about playgroups. Should'a - Would'a - didnt.

There is the MOMS Club in St. Mary's County. I don't know if they would accept you or not. You can call and find out. Wouldn't hurt to call and find out. You might be surprise that they will let you in because you have a child and need support just like any Stay at Home Mom or Dad. Good Luck!

When I was new at staying home, I went to the story time and just asked if anyone wanted to start a playgroup, I got numbers and we met at a playground. I made some wonderful friends that I still have. Most of us Moms have a lot of respect for anyone who does the tough job of raising a child, so don't be afraid of putting yourself out there! Good Luck :howdy:

How about the Little Gym? Ther is one in Waldorf and one in La Plata. I don't know how it works, but a friend of mine has her son in there. I think it's like 1- 1 1/2 hours the kids spend in there, but not sure if the parents get to stay? Something worth checking into, maybe?

Good luck finding a play group. When I went through this two years ago I found that I was either ostracized for having testicles or getting hit on (and groped once!) by bored slut housewives. No thanks!

Well, getting groped is not exactly my aim and I certainly can understand why you felt ostracized. Majority of stay at home parents are mothers. We are just a minority in it all.

Back to the purpose of my initial post though - I really would like to find a play group for my daughter. Does anyone have some strings that they dont mind pulling to help me out?
