St. Mary's County Property Tax Payment

I, like many others have received their property tax bill for this year. You will notice that the check is to be be payable to "JANNETTE P. NORRIS, St. Mary's County Treasurer". Notice that her name is all CAPS. Seems that Jannette is on an ego trip.

As in previous years, I will only put on my check payable to "St. Mary's County Treasurer". Seems they cash it anyway.

Let all of us do the same. Maybe she will get the hint....but I doubt it.

It used to be that way in Calvert. No matter if it is or isn't fail safe, it is an ignorant thing to do, especially this close to elections.

BTW, black out her name on the return envelope.
I wish someone had decided to run against her. They need to bring that office into the 21st century. They are still doing things the way it was done 20 years ago. I know that for a fact.

Ummm... it's been that way forever... What's the big deal?
It doesn't matter if you are politics savvy or not, it's appearance. Several of my friends and also a relative voted against Jesse Jo Bowen (Calvert) for that one and only reason. It takes a whole lot less than that to convince some voters that something is going into the wrong pocket.

That used to aggravate me, too. Although I've met Jesse Jo Bowen in person and she's a nice sweet lady, there's just something "wrong" about writing a tax payment check to a personal name. I'm happy to see that our current treasurer has ceased the practice.

I don't necessarily disagree with you in principle. But there are far more important things to consider when voting than whether or not someone uses their name and title for a job the voters have put them there to do, and they are completely accurate in using. Were it not for Escrow, I would write my payment to the County Treasurer too. But it's still a little too nit-picky to worry about such a trivial thing.
