St Marys High Speed Internet

So last year the big rumor was St Marys County was suppose to all wireless Internet and FIOS was to be installed. So 1 year later, Verizon told me plans have changed and they are staying north for another year or 2. I live in chaptico and the best I can get is dial up. GMP cable is in the area, but they want $5000 to hook up Internet to my house ( i built the house last year), and Verizon says I am .8 miles to far from there ground station to get DSL. Cell phone service is weird, i can get calls, get texts, but i have to stand on one leg and dance around to get my brand new phone to call out. We live on top of a hill and overlook most of the people in the area. I just don't understand what the deal is.

Anyone out there no of any new plans for our area? New towers going up, never thought Ridge would be wireless before seven district.

Who do you have Cell service with? Both Verizon and Sprint offer EVDO wireless internet service. If you can get a decent cell signal this is a viable option..albeit a little pricey at $60 bucks a month.

I am with Verizon, I think one of my friends got the EVDO service. I am trying to get him to bring his laptop to my house to try it out. I dont want to sign a contract on something that wont work.

I live in Chaptico also. I just installed satelite internet and we love it! Beats dial up any day. I currently have Directv so I went through them and they deal with Wildblue for the internet service. I don't see us getting decent phone lines anytime soon so I gave in and signed up for this. I pay $50 per month for the service.

Both Verizon and Sprint used to have 30 day trial programs for the EVDO service. I presume they still do..try it , if it doesn't work take it back for full refund.

Go to Cell Phones, Cell Phone Plans, Cell Phone Accessories - Verizon Wireless

I got a UM150 free + free shipping + free activation, just have to pay the $59.99 a month.

You have 30 days, if it doesn't work, stick it back in the box, put the supplied return label on it and send it back....

You felt the need to lie about this in 2 threads?

I started the thread in the area where most of the people hang out on this site to get some info. I then noticed there is a a tech area, so I reposted down here and posted in the orignal thread I was moving it down here. BUt I can find the delete button on the 1st thread i posted.

Why are you accusing me of lieing??? If i have to i can fax you the metrocast quote, which is $4978 dollars for them to install cable to my house.

ANd I already corrected myself, GMP is now Metrocast, which I found out doing my research. I have never had cable in the 14 years I have lived here.

I know people that work there. When did they start putting their quotes on paper? Are you sure that they only had to run 845 feet of cable to get to you. If people are saying that the first 300 ft are free then why would 545 ft cost almost 5K? That's over $9 a ft :roflmao:

Just pull out your Verizon Cell Phone...look in the top left corner display and if you see EV-DO with at least one bar - you got access! If you only see one bar - you can get a little antenna that plug's into the card for better reception.

I live on the cusp of Lexington Park and Ridge/Dameron and can get nothing but dial-up.

Might try cable tomorrow. Something's gotta give.
