It shouldn't in this weather, at this point it's just a little snow. Kids are on those buses. They need to get better bus drivers and/or train them specially. We have a ridiculously high rate of bus crashes here.
My kid's bus driver has 25+ tears of experience and has never been the cause of an accident, but that didn't help her a few years ago when some dumbass in a car ran into her, doing enough damage to put the bus in the shop for nearly a month. And there was no snow involved.

Training the bus drivers in one thing. What are you going to do about all the other people on the road, especially the ones transferred here from states liek Florida and California?

I don't drive in the snow because i know i would get in a car accident. If you don't know how to drive in a certain type of weather if you can avoid it or learn how to. Read on what to do or go really slow. Let people honk at you. Its your life your saving. I am lucky that i am a sahm so i dont need to leave the house everyday. Stay safe everyone!

That's good of you, but you know darn well that there are people out there that are going to go out anyway, even though they don't have a clue how to drive.

Uncle in PA drives a school bus and basically said that when dealing with those hills you sometimes just have to ease down (yeah right, as well as the breaks work with 2 feet of snow :lmao:) and try to keep it as straight as you can...not that uncommon to have a bus spin at least 360* on the way to the bottom :jameo:

at least that's how I recall him telling the story :lmao:
Only twice in the 11 years I rode the school bus in Minnesota did we ever either spin or get stuck. Once we ended up half in a ditch, so we were tilted. That's it. I lived on a hill that, if it got icy, we'd have to walk up because the bus couldn't make it up. There was one time the roads were so bad we were actually ice skating on them...

What this is, is nothing more than a glorified mess and if people would slow down and actually use skills taught in basic driver's ed (about what to do in a fish tail, hydroplaning, etc.) there'd be less accidents.

Does that mean you just have them invite their friends over?

Sorry, but this is the forums and you left yourself open to that one.
No. I don't let their friends come over usually. They live with their Mom, and when they come here it's Dad time, not friend time. Oh, and I'm not as sex starved as you and Dye, I guess.

It is fair. TO sit behind a puter in warmth complaining when other ppl have to be out in it...

She has epilepsy and chooses not to drive because she doesn't feel safe doing it...I'd rather her not drive if she doesn't feel safe doing it than being like these other geniuses and driving like it's dry pavement when there is snow/ice on it :jameo:

:yahoo: My husband is rather excited too. At 30 years old, he is trying to convince his boss that he needs a snow day. :killingme

I agree totally! I've only seen snow a handful of times and I'm just itching to get out there in it! I've already trudged out to take a ton of pictures!

That's because people that aren't in Maine, Canada, or Iceland don't know how to prepare their vehicles for 2 feet of snow.
:killingme There may be a few other states that could be added to your list. I grew up in NY, where we also got a lot of snow every winter. Schools rarely closed, everything was open. The only time I was ever involved in a bus accident is when some idiot came into the bus's lane and sideswiped us. The bus driver was able to maintain control after being struck. There was no snow, or even rain, to speak of. Just another idiot that couldn't even drive on dry roads. Did he not see that huge yellow bus next to him?

Accidents are bound to happen, it's a fact of life. As for better training for the bus drivers around here, how can they practice driving in wintery conditions when it hardly snows here? One thing is for sure - I'll never drive a bus, wouldn't want to be responsible for all those lives multiple times a day. They have a tough job.

Exactly. And if you don't feel safe doing it, don't. Especially don't make it your job. A bus driver should know what he's doing on the road in the off chance of any situation that may occur. If someone hits the bus, that's another story, but a car wouldn't usually do much damage to a bus.
