St. Peter looked up, and over 1,000 people from New Orleans were converging on the Pearly Gates. Never having more than a few people from New Orleans coming per day, he rushed to ask God what to do.
God told him "Don't worry, St Peter. There has been a terrible flood in New Orleans. That's the reason for the large number of New Orleanians showing up at once." St Peter returned to the Pearly gates. The suddenly, he ran back to God in a panic, yelling "They're gone! They're gone!!"
God said calmly, "St Peter, all those people could not have disappeared so quickly."
St Peter said remorsefully, "No, the Pearly Gates, they're gone!"
