I saw a news ticker on CNN News a few minutes ago concerning Mt. St. Helens:

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/13/national/13volcano.html?ex=1099454400&en=d634e91e989be613&ei=5087&excamp=GGGNmtsthelens

"In recent weeks, the crater floor near the southern part of the lava dome has been pushed up more than 330 feet by rising magma. That is also the location of the steam emissions and the new lava extrusion"

CNN wa saying the height of this new dome is approximately the size of a 30 story building.

Somebody is going to get religion out there

Enjoying life!
The article also says that this rise of 330 feet "is part of normal lava dome growth". I doubt there will be another cataclysmic eruption soon, but perhaps in 15-20 years. Or so says my vulcanologist friend, Mr. Spock. :)

I thought by the heading that Penn had been eating beens again.

I think that Mt. St. Helens might blow again and soon, but would it be that great a loss. The area is sparsley populated and besides isn't this a "blue state"?

No Ken, as a matter of fact, I was at my friends house for dinner tonight, had broiled scallops marinated in butter, garlic, lemon, and white wine.

We had it over Angel Hair pasta, salad w/oil & vinegar, Garlic bread included, plus we split a bottle of a real nice Chardonay.

Outstanding Dinner, Oh and she likes candlelight too. Cool!

I'll be farting tomorrow from all the garlic.

Sounds like a great dinner! Glad I won't be in your neck of the woods tomorrow!!!

I wonder if the volcanic activity at Mt St Helens was related to the plate shifting which caused the tidal wave?

Didnt Mt Aenta (sp?) in Sigonella have an eruption recently?

hmmmm.....makes ya think...

Most definitely does. There is supposed to be some very unstable activity also going on underneath Yellowstone National Park, but no telling if or when that could blow. That is right in the middle of our country.

As 2nd Amendment had quoted for us, the End Times will be heralded by wars and a multitudes of earthquakes and volcanoes. Hmmmm?

Ahh no, but there is no telling when that could happen, judging from a 'tread I read earlier. :ohwell:

If anyone is interested, here is a very simple explanation.

I clicked the link and was disappointed it led to Exploring our Raging Earth rather than Exposing our Raging Retard. :frowny:

Yellowstone has a big ol' Super Volcano sitting right under it.
If it blows, it's said that the shockwave would knock down buildings as far as away as Chicago, and that the middle portion of the U.S. would virtually be gone.

The resulting ash and dust would blackout the sky for months.

I think it's the liberal's fault.

Why don't they just drill a hole and relieve the pressure if there is really a concern?
Where's your sarcasm tags?

I'm pretty sure that a) it isn't taken seriously enough by politicians to put together some kind of plan, b) we've never done anything like that and don't know how to do it, and c) whoever they may be is probably afraid of screwing up and just causing the eruption to happen sooner than later.

We can't even get an asteroid shooter-outta-the-skyer... Who wants to foot the bill for an eruption preventer...

If it doesn't happen earlier, this disaster would probably spell the end of the U.S. as a super power. And who knows what effect it would have on the rest of the world.
