Thank you ladies and gentlement - this has been one of the most informative and entertaining threads I've read since I've been here.

Except for one or two of the emotional blow-out threads.

The way it sounded to me was that American seniors can purchase American made prescription drugs from another country.

Then I asked myself, how can one purchase something from another country that is American made? Are there American workers in Tailand making these drugs?

I'm probably just missunderstanding this...

Not only that, but we (as consumers) can purchase those exact same drugs from other countries at a much cheaper price than it costs us here in the States. Brilliant!

The American company makes it and ships it for sale in Canada. Then Americans cross the boarder to buy them because it's cheaper and sometimes you don't need a perscripsion.

Ohhhhh.....gotcha!

So is it left up to an individual to go across the border and buy it for themself? Or is the Illinois government involved in actually going across the border and stocking their shelves?

Yeah, you are..

Countries like Canada that have socialized medicine deal directly with American drug companies and buy in HUGE bulk. Canada then gets the drug for a fraction of the price (per pill) then a consumer in the US could get it for. In turn a US citizen could then travel to Canada and get a US made drug for a fraction that he could get it for on Main Street in his hometown.

It washes out in the end, they come down here for Turkey's Cigarettes and gas, we go North for Viagra..

It's not Bureaucracy, it's capitalism.. the drug manufacturer only has 7 years to make as much money as they can before their drugs can go generic.

I'm not blaming the companies for trying to earn a living.

My point is: look at how much bullshit the company has to go through in order to sell their wares. Due to the bureaucracy, they are forced to "get around" the regulations and rules, and all the :bs: in order to make a few bucks.

Don't forget supply and demand. If we have a million Kerad's going to Canada to get their little blue pill, the supplies dwindle and prices rise. All of this Canadian durg crap is a distraction from the real issue: How can we get reasonably priced drugs to consumers yet still allow enough profit incentives to the manufacturers so that they continue developing better drugs?

I don't have an answer, which is why I'm not in the library running for office.

Maybe you should be, it is obvious that your intellectual ability is at least 9 years of public school and minimum 4 years of higher education above certain other candidates whom shall not be named at this moment.

Going to Canada to buy drugs seems like a temporary fix to the problem. Like MMDad said.

What about a government contract for certain prescription medicine. "Whatever" level government puts out an offer saying "We want X amount of type 1234 drug, who can give me the best deal?" Then the bidding begins for the contract, a deal is made, and in turn we buy the drugs from "whatever" level of government made the deal.

Actually, I'd love to see a candidate that will admit that they don't have the answer. They usually just make up a bad answer or say the opposite of their opponent.

As for the drug issue, don't forget that we also pay for all the hoops that drug companies have to go through to get approval to sell their drug in the US. That includes years of research and testing to make sure that the drug is safe. And we all know that no unsafe drugs have ever made it out of the approval process...

Oh, please, say it is so and that Kerad will not have an Internet connection to bother us ever again. JPC, Sr. posts are so stupid, they are easily ignored. Kerad is like a flea. A great irritant. Good thing I am not the grand poobah of this board.
