Actually with Darwin, you not only have to die doing something stupid, you have to have left no progeny, hence the "Darwin" label - removing yourself from the gene pool.

Anyway, I thought it was among his better efforts. A little less drama, a little more realism. After having listened and been hopeful following Clinton's SOTU speeches - only to have all of the ideas vanish - I know that SOTU promises are like campaign promises. I think some of the weaning off of oil ideas are moving in the right direction. I'm not sure how the civilian thing with the military will work, but it sounds good initially - it frees up men from doing logistical work and doing what they were trained to do. Some other stuff that doesn't immediately spring to mind.

I think he acknowledged the fact that the war we're fighting now isn't the war we went in intending to fight. Recognition of that will help him. Whether or not this surge idea will work remains to be seen.

I didn't bother watching, it's always the same thing. Blah blah blah (stand up and clap) insert slogan here (stand up and clap). It's just more of a formality than anything. Besides, Dirty Jobs was new last night.

Sending extra troops is just not sitting well with me. One sect thinks they are above the other. The sectarian violence has been going on for 1400 hundred years. Heck infused in the genes so to speak and no policy or adding extra troops is going to stop that. I think this is a situation that the Iraqs' need to seriously deal with.

Ahmadinejad is blaming Bush for the sectarian violence
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3356154,00.html
"Sparking discord among Muslims, especially between the Shiites and Sunnis, is a plot hatched by the Zionists and the US for dominating regional nations and looting their resources," Ahmadinejad added, according to the report.

The idea is to bolster the number of troops in Bagdad and make the entire city secure so that the Iraqi govt actually has time to get on it's feet and establish it's own control.

Looks like the Senate Armed services committee voted against the troop build up, thus threw a brick through that glass idea... :coffee:

We're fairly divided here in the good old USofA but we don't run around shooting people. Not most of us, anyway.
