(GLEN BURNIE, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that occurred early this morning in Anne Arundel County.
Police believe the crash involved eleven vehicles in four separate crashes in the area of westbound I-695 at MD-295. Light rain, fog and low visibility are believed to have contributed to the incidents.
The preliminary investigation indicates the initial crash occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m. and involved two vehicles. Moments later the next crash involved three vehicles trying to slow in time for the initial crash, which subsequently lead to a chain reaction of two additional crashes.
A total of two people were transported to area hospitals. Other drivers and passengers from the vehicles involved remained on the scene and were uninjured.
State police from the Glen Burnie Barrack responded to the scene. Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration and Coordinated Highways Action Response Team (CHART) responded to the scene to assist with traffic detours. Anne Arundel County Police Department and Fire/EMS also responded.
The investigation is continuing.
