(OXON HILL, MD) – Maryland State Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of an early morning fatal crash in Prince George’s County today.
The deceased is identified as Tervon Edwards, 23, of District Heights. Edwards was pronounced deceased on the scene. Autopsy results are pending examination by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.
Shortly before 12:30 a.m. this morning, troopers from the Forestville Barrack responded to a crash on I-495, just north of Indian Head Highway. The crash occurred off of the highway in a paved parking area at Exit 3, Route 210/Indian Head Highway in Oxon Hill.
For reasons unknown at this time, the preliminary investigation indicates the Sebring, operated by Edwards, lost control and traveled off of the roadway, striking a tractor trailer. The vehicle came to rest underneath and between the tractor trailer and a car carrier parked off of the roadway.
The tractor trailer was unoccupied. The car carrier had one occupant who refused medical treatment at the scene. Edwards, who was the sole occupant of the Sebring, was pronounced deceased by EMS personnel on the scene.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team responded to conduct the investigation, along with personnel from the Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. The Prince George’s County Fire Department also responded to assist with the scene.
The cause of the crash has not been determined at this time. Nothing has been ruled out as a cause or contributing factor. All possibilities are being considered.
