(SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND) – Maryland State Police located the truck and have identified the driver involved in the fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash that occurred in Montgomery County yesterday morning.

The driver is identified as Jadien Ranard Jones, 39 of Henrico, Virginia. Jones was the operator of a white 2021 Freightliner straight truck involved in the crash. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.

The victim, identified as Eric Lewis, 57, of Washington, D.C. was pronounced deceased at the scene. Lewis was the foreman for a mobile tree trimming operation contracted through the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.

Shortly before 10:15 a.m. yesterday cones were set up on the right shoulder of eastbound I-495, east of Linden Lane in Silver Spring by a mobile tree trimming crew. Police believe the crew was in the process of removing equipment from their work trucks and setting up advanced roadwork signs when a Freightliner truck veered onto the right shoulder, subsequently striking multiple traffic cones and the foreman. The driver of the Freightliner truck did not remain at the scene.

Investigators from the Maryland State Police Crash Team located the truck at The Home Depot Distribution Center in Sparrows Point, Maryland yesterday afternoon and made contact with the driver, later identified as Jones. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation and consultation with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office. The investigation is active and ongoing.
