Statement From 60 Former CIA Officials

...All of us believe it is critical to protect classified information from unauthorized disclosure. But we believe equally strongly that former government officials have the right to express their unclassified views on what they see as critical national security issues without fear of being punished for doing so. Our signatures below do not necessarily mean that we concur with the opinions expressed by former Director Brennan or the way in which he expressed them. What they do represent, however, is our firm belief that the country will be weakened if there is a political litmus test applied before seasoned experts are allowed to share their views.

So while Fox/Trump "News" and places like Redstate will trot out the party line...those who are or have actually been in service to this country are finally standing up against the threat to our democracy that this President has become.

The Office of the President does not exist for it's occupant to use as a tool to threaten or silence his political critics.

If Trump had any dignity, any respect or the first god damned clue about the foundational principals of this country, he would act like he is President. Christ, he doesn't even act like he is an adult.

Trump's Presidency is now on track to be even less productive that Obama's. The likelihood is that the House will flip in the fall. Since Jan 20, 2017, Trump has had an opportunity to pull this country together. He has had ample opportunity to pursue legislation in the interest of the country and her future. He has had ample opportunities to make deals. He has done none of this.

Instead he has actively pursued a campaign of division. He has actively pursued a campaign of deal breaking.

As I've said many times, he blew it when he didn't come out of the gate ("in the first hour on the first day") with a massive infrastructure plan (as he promised to do and has promised to do many times since.). If he was really interested in "draining the swamp" he should have put forth legislation to kill gerrymandering. If he was really interested in Making America Great Again, he should have put some folks with D's after their name in his cabinet and immediately began reaching out to our allies and he should have stated clearly and without reservation that Russia was going to pay a heavy price for interfering in our election.

Instead, all he has done is toilet tweet elementary school level insults and pander to a rather uneducated minority of people who think it is appropriate to shout "lock her up" at political rallies.

We are a weaker, smaller nation every day this man is in office. There is some inevitability of China overtaking us as the world's largest economy (they have roughly 4x our population). Trump has accelerated that time line with his idiotic tariffs and asinine attacks on our allies.

So, the part I'm confused about is how revoking his clearance equates to silencing him. He can blather all he wants, but there's no reason for him to retain a high level security clearance while doing so.

You're asking spittle spewing psychos to be rational? Their masters tell them what to bitch about, and they do. End of story.

I can't think of a reason why a leftwing radical political pundit (which is what Brennan is now) would need a security clearance.

Have you changed any opinions today?
I didn't think so...

China holds its status as an economic superpower - BECAUSE OF THE UNITED STATES.
They need us. We really don't need them. Not really.

Do you think it's possible to get the opinions and signatures of 60 Hollywood actors and celebrities to do the same?
How about a couple thousand former federal workers in DC?

Had a discussion about this with a coworker this past week.

It really woudn't be too much of a disruption for manufacturer's to go back to factories in Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia etc.

And in fact those countries could use the work.

I took it more as a warning for current members not to talk to Brennan.

I don't know what political litmus test they are talking about that was used to take Brennan's security clearance .
The man has been running off at the mouth , he is a Muslim, he is trying to unseat a President duly elected by the American people.

That isn't a litmus test, it is damned near treason.

I don't think Trump was wrong at taking Brennan's security clearance, I think he was wrong for not having him charged with treason.

If you spent any time in/around the CIA you would find 60 folks willing to sign before you even got out of Langley's executive parking lot. As with State, the CIA skews a bit Left. But what it really skews - at the leadership level - is Deep State (yes, it's real). #ClearancesAreCurrency

--- End of line (MCP)

It may be time to either do away with the CIA or completely revamp it.
