Ok... so we lost the big game, so what. I work with a guy who told me last week that "I hate the Steelers, and I especially hate Steeler fans. But I have to admit that no one supports their team like you guys do." And that's what we do... we support our team through good times and bad. Sure it's easy to find Patriot paraphernalia in stores across the country after they've won a Super Bowl or two, but will there ever be a Patriot's store in Virginia Beach or Jacksonville? Will there be organized fan clubs in every city? Will there ever be three racks of Patriots stuff in sporting goods stores in Maryland, and only one rack for Redskins stuff? Hell no! And why? Because even when our Steelers are losing, we still love them! That's why there's a Steelers kiosk at Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach, that's why there are Black and Gold clubs everywhere you go, and that's what makes the Steelers and their fans the greatest.

The Patriots' bandwagon will roll on until they start losing, and then when you hear talk of "Dynasty" outside of New England it'll be becase someone is mentioning the Steelers, the Cowboys, or because ABC is running another crappy reunion show.

Go Steelers!

I always thought it was because there were no jobs in PA so PA natives get dispersed throughout the country.

I won't call myself an "athletic Supporter" but have been a NE fan through thick and thin for the past 30 years.. NEVER got cguht up in the Dallas craze, and even though I lived close to Pittsburgh for 7 years, STILL couldn't deny my Pats..

No. it's not total BS. Also, I'm not saying that you loyal, die-hard Patriots fans are apt to fall of the wagon. You guys will continue to support your team I'm sure. But the fact is that there aren't very many of you, and your team has little appeal outside of the New England region.

This may sound a bit wierd, but aside from Alaska and New Mexico, I've been to every state in the Union. And there are two things that I always do when I go somewhere: First, I open the Yellow Pages to the Lawyers section and count how many pages of lawyers there are - it's a great indicator of how f-upped the area is. Second, I go to the local mall and always stop by the sporting goods stores to see if I can find any Steelers merchandise... and I always do - even in Hawaii. Outside of stores in Boston, MA and Portland, ME, I never saw any Patriots stuff until after they won the Super Bowls, and it quickly petered out until they won again.

I'm sure that once your team loses the Super Bowl again, or fails to make the big name, that the New England Patriots will once again be shuttled off to the category of "They're still around?" The Steelers, on the other hand, can play lousy like they did last year and still have just as much nationwide support.

Lastly, most Steelers fans that I meet down here are not only not native to Pittsburgh or Pennsylvania... they've never even been to the city! This was quite a surprise for me! The most enthusiastic fan I know was born and raised in Kentucky. Most of them are the children of people who were big Steelers fans during the 70's and grew up being as die-hard fans even though our team sucked through most of the 80's. Now I know what you're thinking - that the kids of today's bandwagon fans will follow the same route, but you're probably wrong. I thought that the same thing would happen with the Cowboys, but it didn't. Since they started losing, their fan base has gone to zip. They are only "America's Team" in their own mind.

So... watch the fan clubs outside of the immediate region, and paraphernalia availability - merchants won't waste money buying things they can't sell. The gleam of the Patriots will last just a bit longer than the time they are winning.

I know that your down in FLA rooting for the Steelers. I'm here in MD rooting for the Steelers as well.

But I have to disagree with you on the going to MD stores to find Steelers gear. The only chance you have of finding anything Steelers related is going to the Hat Hut (or whatever it called) where they sell ball caps of just about every sport team. You'll find just as many Steeler caps as you will for the Tarheels or Clev Indians-believe me I try to pick up as much Steeler things as I can. Usually I have to go to ebay or wait for that annual trip to PA.

As for the Steelers, I'm still a huge fan. It will certainly take some time to get rid of that sting of getting slugged in the jaw by Cowher and his crew of coaches. 1st and goal from the four and you can't punch it in.... And let's not forget about that "squeeking wheel" Plaxico.... After the game he's complaining about not being thrown to as much as he would like. Is he not watching the replays of all the dropped passes he's had this year? Or the fact that he was AWOL from mandatory training before the season started... I'll hold the door open for him to leave PA......

Steelers should not even have been playing yesterday after that so called game against the Jets where they got lucky as hell.

If you want to go back in time.... The Jets shouldn't have been there last week after that boob had to rough the QB and pushed the game into OT.

Dude, come on... Pittsburgh "WAS" the number one seed because they won games. The problem is they didn't win the one(s) that counted.

I agree, the Jets shouldn't have got as far as they did, but the "number one seed", sure wasn't playing like a "number one seed" now were they?

No disagreement from me. The coaching staff wasn't looking too much like a number one seed either. I will nver understand being down by 14 with 13 minutes left in the game and having fourth and goal and not going for the TD. If you don't make it so they get the ball on the one. If you make it you boost the emotions of the team and the fans. As it was, Cowher basically gave them the game on a silver platter.

And as far as offensive coordinator goes, Wisenhunt was about as creative as a 90 year old grandmother who had never seen a football. But then again, when your wide receiver (Burress) can't catch a three yard gimmee for a TD when it hits him in the hands, how creative can you get???
