I wanna be a SMIB
They are have a memorial service todaay for Steve Fossett. His wife had him declared legally dead recently. My question is, I thought you had to be gone 7 years before family could have you declared dead. I mean "what if" he just took his zillions and ran off. I know its highly unlikely and he really is dead but if you or I tried to do this, would it be that easy?

The law varies by state. Circumstances can also speed things up. For example, imagine if the families of those still missing from 9/11 had to wait 7 years to collect life insurance?

If you disappeared the same way he did, you could probably be declared dead the same way he was.

nobody really

I need a nap

I know the desert is big but its also pretty barron out there so I would think if there was a big spattler out there somewhere, you might see it. Especially if its fresh spattler like when they first started looking for him.

It's not as flat as people think. I'm betting the wreckage is in a canyon, gully, or hillside where it isn't visible by air. It'll probably be found one day by a hunter, hiker, or rancher.
