"Stop HELPING Disabled Veterans" - Economist Magazine

The Economist, a business based magazine, recently posted an anonymous article stating how "The United States has a un-healthy Veteran Obsession." It goes on to attempt to validate absolute nonsense from the Congressional Budget Office's suggestions list in 2023.

I guess a 20 year ground war in the middle east region will cause your disability payment budget to swell.

But I've also know a few vets who have gamed the system also. 1 guy told me what I need to tell them to increase my payments. ANother is a peacetime vet who got max benefits for a ptsd diagnosis.

What would be great is if those that really needed the help got it and those faking it got a huge does of karma. This goes for all gov't benefit programs.

I have few young ones that work for me, 4yrs of peace time service with 100% disability playing golf, football, and nothing physically wrong with them. They admit being coached to claim/embellish everything for higher ratings. My brother went to an advocate and they were telling all sorts of BS to get a higher rating- oh, you had a friend who died in a military plane crash 30yrs ago, that can be PTSD. Some act like its a game to see if they can get higher ratings. I also love seeing all DV tags on luxury vehicles knowing I know where those benefits are going...

Yes, there are MANY who deserve disability for what they sacrificed for our county, but there are also MANY who blatently abuse it.

I have helped many disabled veterans through the disability process and I can say for certain that 99% of them are authentic. I can also say that "gaming" the system is difficult. Any veteran disability claim is actually a legal process. Most scammer get caught for one reason and one reason only. GREED!
Also, a lot of a veteran's disability rating is based on a qualified doctor's diagnosis and recommendation. I have helped quite a few vets who have submitted claims that we thought would be rated for a 30% disability BUT, it comes back at a 50% or 70% disability due to the doctor's evaluation and recommendation.
As for the greed aspect, that is mostly people who are rated and try to get something outlandish and get caught. People who try to claim above and beyond their disability (i.e. I can't walk OR I can't work due to XX injury) and then are stupid enough to file tax returns from a physically demanding job)
Just like anything else, a small minority of evil-doers makes everyone look bad.

Save your money by cancelling your subscription to the Economist, if you were stupid enough to have one in the first place
