I recently received a notice from the storage facility stating, as of the first of this month, there will be an additional $8.00 added to the monthly rent fee.
Also stated was the limit of this insurance; $2K.

So, I talked to my auto insurance carrier who told me that for $10/month I get up to $10K in personal property coverage; $8K worth of more coverage for just $2 more/month.
Still paying what amounts to $10 more for storage rent every month; but the coverage is better.
Annnd.....I get a $120 break on my car insurance per year.

Yeah, I still pay that $120, but at least it's not for car insurance.
Kind of a racket that car insurance.....necessary evil that it is.....

what do you keep in your storage unit that you can't just give away and repurchase later with the money you have saved from not having a storage unit?

I personally have never understood why people pay to rent a storage unit. I could on a very short term rental but after a while the cost of the unit will most likely outweigh the costs of the goods being stored. If it was valuable I would find friends to lend me attic or garage space or just sell it in a yard sale. But to each there own.
