Strange monitor problem

My son's monitor is displaying his screen sideways, but not always. His desktop is sideways, some internet sites and games are sideways, but some are right. I don't think it's really a monitor problem since not everything is sideways. It's really strange. Any ideas?

Are you on a laptop or PC? The work PC I have has an LCD widescreen that can work in the normal orientation or swivel and work lengthwise (would look sideways if you didn't swivel it). If this is the case, you can right click anywhere on your Windows desktop, and choose Properties. Then go to the Settings tab and see if you can change the orientation. I'm not sure if it'll work, but it's worth a try!

Thanks but that wasn't it. We couldn't figure it out so we just bought him a new CPU. Wasn't that expensive since we didn't get a monitor.

how does getting a new cpu fix the problem.....you mean PC right? maybe you coulda just set the monitor on it's side :lmao:

I don't know too much about computers but I do know if you put a magnet near your cpu and/or monitor that your color will get all jacked up and you'll need a new monitor. Yea, learned that the hard way :bawl:

Most likely it was just a video card problem. Unless you really wanted to get a new Computer(most commonly refered to as cpu in short for the whole kit and kaboodle, only real techies call a cpu a cpu and really just mean the cpu..:p)

If your son doesn't do any REALLY intensive 3d gaming, 75 bucks or less would have most likely fixed your problem.

some Video cards / monitors have the ability to rotate 90 Degrees changing the layout

I know my dell 1905FP 19" LCD can do that ..... that

It's possible that your son has hit a couple hot keys by accident. Ctrl + (directional arrow) flips the display with some ATI video cards.

I don't know what the problem was, but it was so weird because it wasn't always sideways. Like I mentioned, his desktop screen was always sideways. Some websites were sideways and some were not. We figured it wasn't a monitor problem since it wasn't a consistent problem. So we bought just a new CPU (I thought the CPU was the actual computer box, not including monitor) and it's working fine, even with the same old monitor. He's had that computer a few years so I guess it was gonna be time for an upgrade soon anyway.

Tell him to reinstall the video card driver or monitor driver. That would eliminate most software issues. Also, check for any software called PivotPro or something of that nature.
