Stray beagle/Chaptico

There's been a stray beagle hanging around the Chaptico intersection, liquor store/market the past couple days. It has some tags but will not come to anyone. Dog doesn't look in bad shape but is tick-ridden. I tried yesterday with some food but it's really shy/timid. A couple workers at the market are working on it still.

I tried to get the same dog on Saturday. He/she was eating trash out of the road on Mechanicsville Road near the Rt. 234 stop sign. Very shy and ran from me. Then a few hours later I saw the same dog crossing 234 near Chaptico Park when I was taking kiddos to soccer game. I tried again to get the dog but it ran from me.

Beagle wasn't there, just looked

Hi, I had a few minutes so I went to see if I could get him this a.m. around 8:45-9:45 and no one had seen him. The store owner said it is a male and he is a pretty beagle. Maybe I will try again but I already have a house full. Anyone want to foster as a courtesy (not official rescue dog) if I catch him? I'm willing to do the initial clean-up bath, pull ticks, frontline, and H/W him. Having a standby foster parent would motivate me to try harder to catch him if he is even still around. One of the lady's mentioned someone else said they were going to call animal control but no one wants him to have that fate. I'm such a sucker for beagles and good challenges! At least they are feeding him, those good people.

I will definitely foster if we can catch him....have a bassett and beagle and a nice outdoor pen and will work w/ him and take care of the vet stuff, too, if need be. Someone else said they saw him way up by the Chaptico Park, that's close to a mile up 234. He wasn't around this morning around 8:00 or so.

The dog I saw up by the park and at the end of Mech. Road matched your description but I have not seen him since. I even went by the Chaptico Market on Monday and did not see him. I hope he is ok.

He was there again, I left a crate there on the honor system that it will be returned once he is caught. The ladies who are feeding him are going to try and trap him with food. They said he has tags on but they couldn't get a hold of anyone so someone may be missing him. Tipsymgee, what is your phone # so if they catch him I can call you to come get him and foster him? I'll help you clean him up if you want but my hubby would be upset if I brought another home before I get the others rehomed/adopted.

:buddies: That was very nice of you. I hope you catch him and I hope they return the crate to you either way.

Tried to lure the little sucker this morning with another rescued beagle, he just looked at her and then took off accross the road. I pursued in hopes when we got to the field with less activity and risk of traffic he would stop and regroup, maybe show some interest but Speed Racer just booked into the biggest swampiest thicket and dissapeared! There was a nice man who said he could pet him and catch him and just thought someone owned him because he had a collar on. He said if he catches him he will call us. If someone does own him, they need to know what he is up to and either keep him contained better or surrender him. The ladies at the market said they tried to call the number but got no one. We really think his family moved away and left him but need to catch him to know for sure. He is a nice color.

Wow, he has been so lucky to have not gotten hit by a car. I sure hope that man can get him and put him in the crate. I can only imagine how many ticks he must have on him. You are probably right about his family. I hope they catch him before the holiday traffic picks up on that road.

Two of the nice ladies bought him a $3.00 bag of dogfood to feed him occasionally but they are too busy working to catch him in the crate it seems and today I stupidly ran him off. Better he hide in the woods until there is less traffic but I was hoping he would play that hide and seek game with me and show some interest in the other beagle! he must be really scared to be afraid of her, she is small! I put her on a flexi lead so she would walk far away from me but he didn't take the bait.

I go through that area everyday at about 6:00 am I have seen him a handful of times. Tuesday he did almost bite the dust by the car in front of me. It was about 100 yards up the hill twords Leonardtown on 249. He is a great looking dog. If you cant find anyone to take him when you get him let me know. I used to have a few Beagles.

 249 is a good 20 miles from 234 and 238.
