Structural engineer for existing residential structure evaluation?

My advise as an engineer and someone who has seen the 1986 Tom Hanks/Shelly Long comedy "The Money Pit" is don't buy a house that needs evaluated.

I agree, but its not me. When the coworker says that the "window wall" that was built by the homeowner bows a bit when you press the center, my advice was to get an engineer. Oddy enough, when looking for one locally it didnt appear there were any.

And if it were a roof issue maybe Chopp would be good, although back when I sold Chopp trusses they only designed new to order or sold stock sizes. Sent some takeoffs to them back in the day.

I had a hell of a time finding an engineer to sign off on the foundation design for our new home back in 2012. (I'm an engineer and designed the massive foundation under our new home....but can't sign off on a design in the county). I'd recommend him..but he passed away years ago. Phred might have meant to refer to Bob Taylor Engineering. Bob's company did the ground penetration and soil compaction testing and all inspection of the resulting foundation construction for my site, but don't design them.Quit being a bitch with no answers. You asked for an engineer moron, contact one of them and ask for what you desire, they all know one another. Grow a set and act like an adult. You get a referral from a GP to a specialist don't you ? Makes sense...all his work for me was foundation level..to about 14' elevation.

I looked around and as Gil said, there are not any local. I asked for an residential structural engineer just in case someone knows one who runs under the radar. Last time I needed an oddball thing that wasn't apparent, the nice folks here hooked me up with a recommendation for a fabricator who appeared on no listings at all because he worked out of his house on the side by word of mouth. Heated his house with coal of all things. Really cool gent with an amazing history. Had what amounted a small machine shop in his garage. Even found a guy who had a stash of Ford 390 engines in a barn out near Breton Bay helped me out with an oil pan. And if you cannot comprehend that there are different types of engineers for different jobs, maybe keep your yap shut when people are talking. Also, your thoughts about me go way deeper than they should about someone you don't know. I'm done talking to you now.
You honestly think JF Taylor does home inspections???
i ended up with most of the engines that came out of that barn. ;-)
