Charles Co. Students can register online for financial literacy course

Online registration begins today for any Charles County Public Schools high school student interested in taking financial literacy for credit this spring. Financial literacy is a graduation requirement and students can take the course through the Robert D. Stethem Educational Center’s NOVEL evening school program.

Online registration is new this year through the ParentVue system and ends Feb. 7. A $50 refundable deposit is required to complete enrollment and must be paid in person at the Stethem Center. Deposits are refunded at the completion of the course with a passing grade, or if the student withdraws between Feb. 11-21. The course starts Feb. 11 and ends May 30 (May 16 for seniors).

Stethem staff will accept payments during the window of 3 to 5:30 p.m. Jan. 28-31 and Feb. 4-7. Accepted forms of payment include Visa, MasterCard, cash and money orders. No payments will be accepted on Fridays. Any student who does not complete the course and does not withdraw between Feb. 11-21 will receive a failing grade.

Students who complete financial literacy through the NOVEL program receive packets of coursework to complete at home. Students must take all quizzes and tests at the Stethem Center, and also submit their coursework to a program instructor.

To register using ParentVue, select the Registration tab located next to the My Account tab. Then select Begin New Registration and follow the prompts. Any parent interested in registering their child must activate and use a ParentVue account. For more information, call 301-932-1003.
