Stupid Phone Calls

I've been getting these calls asking for a shipping address for my "I've fallen and can't get up!" look-alike system. It was requested by a friend or family member who may have recently had a fall. It's already been paid for, they just need a ship address. So this girl is talking away, and she says "Press 1 to Accept, press 5 to Decline".

So if she's talking (it did not sound like a recording...) what the heck good does pressing 1 or 5 do, especially since it's going to my voicemail? (I never answer the phone unless I know who's on the other end)

I keep getting random calls, probably from those "I can fix your credit" companies. My credit is fine. My iPhone tells me the number and what state it is from. I don't know anyone in MS, ID, ND, etc. I don't answer.

I no longer answer the landline and have turned the ringer off.

The answering machine message says " I no longer answer this line. Too much spam and scam. Sorry for your inconvenience. Please leave a message or use another method of communication."

Why don't you just get rid of the landline and only use your cell phone?

1. Buy an air horn.
2. Answer the phone.
3. If it is a telemarketer depress the button on the air horn.
4. Problem solved.

I was getting them too. Really stupid with the sound of shuffling papers like they are really looking up your information (on a recording). I pressed the 1 button and got their rep on the line. I told her that I had reported their number to the Federal Trade Commission and was reporting the call I just received and if they didn't immediately remove from their call list, the next call would cost them $2500. That was over a month ago and I haven't received any calls from them since then. I was getting about 2 a week before.

Like Roman said "It's good to keep a land-line especially for emergencies. I rarely use mine either, but keep it just in case." The phone company generally has better battery back-up/ generators than the cell towers.

Also, the state of Maryland can sell my personal info and the recipient gets a phone number I never answer.

I have Comcast Triple Play. People ask why I have a cell phone, land line, cable and high speed internet.
Hello!

It's the same price to have one and I know all too well how valuable a corded land line is during an emergency.

Oh, Ex does pay for the cell. I would let it go in a heartbeat. I can't believe people pay this for cell phones. I wish he would pay for my triple play instead.
