KHARTOUM (AFP) Sudanese President Omar al-Beshir on Monday pardoned a British woman teacher jailed for 15 days for insulting religion and she will be released in an hour, a presidential advisor told AFP.
"She was pardoned thanks to the mediation of Lord Ahmed and Baroness Warsi. She will be released in about an hour," Mahjoub Fadl Badri told AFP.
A Sudanese court on Thursday jailed Gillian Gibbons to 15 days in prison for insulting religion by naming a teddy bear after the Prophet Mohammed at the exclusive English school where she taught in Khartoum.

Two British Muslim peers, Lord Nazir Ahmed and Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, from the upper house of parliament, were on Monday meeting Beshir at the Republican Palace after flying to Khartoum in order to secure a pardon.

The arrest and jail sentence of the 54-year-old mother of two sparked outrage in Britain and a diplomatic crisis between London and Khartoum, further straining relations already frayed over nearly five years of war in Darfur.

sounds like she was pardoned becasue of a plea made by moderate muslims, and logic was used in coming to the decision.

so whats your hate angle?

Moderate Muslims are seen as apostates by Fundamental Muslims. Fundamental Muslims are obligated to threaten and kill any Muslim who comes to the aid of non-Muslims. The hate angle is from those who placed her there in the first place and would have kept the teacher imprisoned after giving her 40 lashes of prescribed punishment, as required by their Shari'a Law.

Funny how you accuse me of hate for exposing those who really do hate.
Read the Qur'an.

haha starman always tells people to read the Qur'an. He should just have it in his sig.

If they seek peace, then seek you peace. And trust in God for He is the One that heareth and knoweth all things. Quran 8:61

hey look!

peace!

like in the bible!

imagine that would ya

edit: Why, it's almost as if some muslims have taken the text of the Qur'an and twisted it to mean hateful things where the majority still strive for peace!

much like some people have taken statements from the bible to mean hateful things but the majority just want to be good people!

goodness me!

Actually your bigotry doesnt play into this story. This does :

Keep an eye on the word in bold

Not to be outdone in the news, Bill Keler, has posted on youtube a creative piece where names a pig Mohammed.

I sympathize with the woman. But this would be like me taking a job as an English teacher in China and teaching the kids about voting. The police would be at my door in about ten minutes. When you move to a place like this, part and parcel with the deal is agreeing to abide by their rules and regulations, (ya know, kinda like Illegal Immigrants we all complain about) and if you break their laws you have to be willing to accept the consequences. So while her actions might have been completely benevolent and benign she was still responsible for allowing the kids to vote using Mohamed as the name of the bear (yes i know they named it after one of the students).

But if you think I’m going to go down to Tiananmen Square and wave around an American flag, calling on the Chinese to institute democracy, you’re out of your minds.

Excerpt from article reporting the teacher's comments:

"I am looking forward to seeing my family and friends, but I am very sorry that I will be unable to return to Sudan," the statement read."

Hmmm.. wonder why?

Read the Qur'an entirely and in context regarding how Muslims are to regard Jews, Christians and all non-Muslims who do not convert. You have yet to do that - then read the New Testament teachings of Yeshua.

Although you are in total denial of Truth, I am still praying for you.

No, because that is what Islamic Shari'a Law commands. Read the Qur'an, the Ahadith (sayings of Muhammad) and read the fatwas against any person, including a Muslim who speaks against Muhammad. It's in Islamic theology - but you do not know that because you have yet to read and understand Fundamental tenets of Islam. You are still in my prayers.

you say that like it's some kind of poison to me lol

I'd assume god can detect sarcasm, or barring that knows when a statement is given that directly annoys a person (it doesn't).

you can pray for me all you want, but in the end all your praying adds up to a hill of crap depending on how you've lived your life.

just add it in your sig!

and I'll add in mine that I have .... and I'll still be right and you'll still be wrong.

and you are still in my prayers.

(you aren't, but at least I'm honest about it)

Just following the suggestion made by Yeshua. Pray for those who hate His followers because they inwardly hate Him.
