Released Redskins kicker scheduled for Dallas Cowboys tryout

Shaun Suisham, cut by the Washington Redskins after he missed a 23-yard field-goal attempt that probably would have sealed a win over New Orleans, is scheduled for a tryout today with the Dallas Cowboys, in a bind after Nick Folk missed a 24-yarder against New Orleans on Saturday.

Other kicking candidates may also be brought in.

Suisham made 18 of 21 attempts for the Redskins this season before he was released Dec. 8. He missed kicks of 39 and 50 yards in the Redskins’ 7-6 loss to the Cowboys in Arlington.

Suisham kicked for the Cowboys in parts of 2005 (3-of-4) and 2006 (1-of-2).

Folk is 18-of-28 this season.

They're out to get us
Suisham missed a short field goal and they cut him. OK, maybe a rash decision. He had been pretty solid this year, but had been pretty average the year before (26 of 36). You know how many kickers in college do better than 26-36 and don't really even have a chance to play in the NFL? Sure, Suisham might be solid, but I don't understand why the Cowboys would use a retread instead of looking for some new talent like the Skins did when they held a tryout that eventually landed them Gano.
