Drove past there yesterday and noticed the front looked kinda ZORCHED! :yikes: Just curious, does anybody know what happened there?

I was having lunch at Applebee's around 1:30ish on Saturday. Suddenly, there was a huge commotion outside. Firetrucks with lights a flashin', sirens a blarin' :yikes: Lots of 'em.... yellow ones and red ones...:yikes: and the traffic had to all filter to the farthest left hand lane. From what I gather, there was a fire in the lobby and it escilated pretty quick. :shocking:

Thanks for the info! Yeah, it looks like it was burning pretty well before they snuffed it.

We drove by before the fire trucks got there, and the fire was a rip-roaring rolling in the front of the building.

Someone threw a cigarette outside the building. More pictures here
When I was a smoker, it used to always tick me off when somebody put a lit cigarette in a trash can or a public ashtray (like one of those goofy "smoker's outpost" things). It takes a few seconds to separate the burning tobacco from the butt before throwing it away. As a former smoker, it enrages me. Seeing the damage done here really ticks me off, because it was an act of stupid carelessness that caused it.

I believe that the smoker's outposts are designed to "snuff" the butt out due to lack of oxygen. I made my own out of 5 gallon water bottles and 2" pvc. They are ~1/2 full with no fires, yet.
