Below is a link for a GoFundMe for the two-year-old daughter of a Mennonite family in our community in the hospital with viral meningitis.
The listing says it will benefit the Chase family; it will not - they will give 100% of donations to the family.
Understandably, the child's family is not online, so the Chase's are acting as a point of contact.
PLEASE DO NOT harass or give the Chase's any grief during this time.
Yes, there is a medical fund within the Mennonite community; but this is an extraordinary circumstance
with the possibility of life-long complications. It is a BIG deal that they are accepting "outside" help.
Please consider donating if you can/care to. No unpleasant posts, snide comments, etc.
PLEASE DO NOT change the focus of this thread to other topics.
Thank you!

JAN 7, 2022:
Michelle Mast’s father is requesting additional prayers for 2 year old Michelle. She continues to be in the ICU. Specific prayers are being requested for Michelle’s doctors and her parents as they together ascertain what course of action is the best for her.

She continues to be on a ventilator and continues to have “brain storms” that are complicating her treatment options. As one doctor told her parents, “We know how to keep a body alive.” The decisions by both parents and doctors that will be made over the next couple of days will be critical to her survival and whether she is able to breathe on her own.

Please pray for her doctors to do all that is medically possible for her. Please pray for comfort and peace for her parents as they accept God’s will for Michelle.

UPDATE: As of today, Dec 27, 2021, Michelle is still with us. She has been in the ICU this entire time, about two weeks now. She is still too fragile to fully wake up and assess at this point. This fundraiser has met it's limit (thank you, everyone!) but as you can imagine, two weeks of ICU bills alone is going to be crazy expensive, let alone the regular hospital care yet to come and future medical bills. ALL funds go to the Mast family, so please feel free to donate. Thank you!

UPDATE JAN 1, 2022

A Happy and Blessed New Year to you and your families!!

Here is an up date on sweet little two year old Michelle Mast. She is still in the ICU struggling for her life. The doctors have been trying to SLOWLY remove her from the meds that have her in a deep sleep as they also try to take her off of the ventilator. This has been an up and down process. Initially she would breathe for a few minutes then she completely stopped trying to take breaths on her own. But last night her uncle told us she breathed on her own for 40 minutes. He said, “Prayers work.” So please continue to ask our prayer warriors to place her continually in their prayers. The family doesn’t leave her side. They also need to be strengthened and given peace and comfort by the Lord during this time.

JAN 23. 2022 Michelle is STILL in the hospital. She has had some days of breathing on her own but is still partially using a ventilator. The neurology in her brain is still "storming" (term from doctors) sometimes. The doctors need to plan together what would be the best future/ongoing care for Michelle, with her parents. Understandably, her parents are worried and struggling with this long crisis and potential long term issues. They continue to ask for prayer for their daughter, and grace for themselves to have energy and fortitude to deal with whatever is best for Michelle. Donations to the GoFundMe are still welcome. Thank you for your prayers for this family; that is what the request most of all.

They are hoping to bring Michelle home either tomorrow (2/22)or Wednesday 92/23). She is not conscious but is stable. I imagine that this will be quite a challenge for their family as Judith (mother) just gave birth 2 weeks ago!!!

Hello, Unfortunately Michelle was unable to go home on 2/22/22. Her body fluid levels are off; her brain is not directing her kidneys properly. A side effect of this is that the care team can't find a good vein in her to put her on an IV and treat this issue. Until it is resolved she can't come home. This is a significant setback. Please pray for healing of her brain function especially in this area; for healing of her entire being, and grace for her family. Donations still welcome. Thank you!

Michelle is home! Her family has equipment on hand to continue to tube feed Michelle, and other items to care for her. She is not conscious. Please continue to pray for Michelle's healing, and for grace and mercy for this family as they adapt to caring for her at home. Thank you!
