(TANEYTOWN, MD) – One suspect has been charged in connection with an early morning home invasion and shooting of a teenager in Carroll County, while the search continues for the second suspect.

The suspect is identified as Charles O. Caradine, 31, of Taneytown, Md. After consultation with the Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office, Maryland State Police criminal investigators are charging him with attempted first degree murder, home invasion, first degree burglary, reckless endangerment, use of a firearm in a crime of violence, armed robbery, and four counts each of first and second degree assault. The suspect has been taken to the Carroll County Detention Center for booking and to await an initial appearance before a court commissioner for a bond hearing.

Troopers believe evidence indicates Caradine was one of two armed suspects who forced their way into an apartment in the unit-block of E. Baltimore Street in Taneytown about 2:00 a.m., searching for a 16-year-old who lived there. A struggle ensued between the suspects and the victim, during which the victim was shot.

The second suspect is described only at this time as an African American male with a stocky build. Police continue to search for this suspect. Anyone with information about his identity or location is urged to contact police immediately.
